Young Blazers take on King James and the Cavaliers

January 21, 2009

The Cleveland Cavaliers will try to bounce back after a terrible defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers when they travel to Portland to take on the up and coming Trailblazers. The Cavs were throttled by the Lakers in their last game, 105 to 88, and it is essential that they bounce back in a big way against a team that shouldn’t come close to them in terms of talent. Cleveland is still one of the best teams in the NBA straight-up at 31 and 8 and against the BetOnline sportsbook at 27 and 12.

Portland hasn’t been bad or good this season. They’ve been good straight-up going 25 and 16, but their record against the BetOnline online wagering spread at 19 and 21 makes them a tough NBA betting option in most games. They do have a winning record against the spread at home of 11 and 7 but the Cavs are not the usual team that they face in Portland. This could be a real test for the young Blazers.

Game-day: 1/21/2009

Tip-off: 10:05 pm est.

Here are the BetOnline online sportsbook betting odds for this game.

Cleveland Cavaliers -1 -110 O 183 ½ -110

Portland Trailblazers +1 -110 U 183 ½ -110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are 1 and 5 against the spread in their last 6 games on the road.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are 4 and 1 against the spread in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

The Portland Trailblazers are 1 and 5 against the spread in their last 6 games as the underdog.

The Favorites is 10 and 3 against the spread in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.

This is almost a give me game in the sense that the Cleveland Cavaliers shouldn’t lose back to back games this entire season.

The Cavs have been terrific up until their loss to the Los Angeles Lakers a couple of nights ago. They’ve now gotten a day to rest and even though the Portland Trailblazers are a good team, Cleveland is close to being a great team.

Nobody on Portland’s squad matches up with LeBron James, who in the NBA does? But that’s not the only players the Blazers will find it tough to match up with. Anderson Varejao is also very good and the Blazers young front-court is going to find it difficult to score against Ben Wallace.

This game comes down to the fact that the Cavs will want to bounce back from that terrible loss to the Lakers. They should do so in style by blowing out that -1 line showing in the BetOnline sportsbook.

I’ll be making an bet on the Cleveland Cavaliers to cover the -1 spread in this game.
