Yankees Take on White Sox in MLB Odds
April 26, 2011
Usually a threat to any team in the American League Central, the bottom-dwelling Chicago White Sox are now desperate for a win on the road. Playing at Yankee Stadium tonight, the White Sox look to avoid their fourth consecutive loss. But the MLB odds favor the Yankees as Chicago continues to struggle.
Chicago White Sox (8-12) at New York Yankees (12-6)
Monday, April 25 at 7:05 PM ET
Yankee Stadium, The Bronx, New York
TV: ESPN, YES
MLB Odds: Chicago +1.5, New York -1.5, Game Total: 10 runs
Chicago is off to a pitiful start to the 2011 season, having dropped ten of their last 11 games. Not to mention being swept by the Detroit Tigers. Or the team batting average of .193. And now, to make matters worse, the team opens a three-game series at Yankee Stadium.
Chicago will send Phil Humber to the stripe, an unfamiliar face to this spot in the rotation, starting in place of injured Jake Peavy. Humber has lost his last two starts, with a season average ERA of 4.42. With just a little over 18 complete innings pitched, Humber has given up 19 hits and five walks on the season.
On the other side of the stripe will be the ace AJ Burnett. Although without a loss yet, Burnett’s ERA has climbed to 4.37 as the righty has allowed 23 hits and four homers on the season. The White Sox has traditionally had success against Burnett, as Chicago won in his last two starts and managed 18 hits against him.
MLB Pitching Matchup:
CWS P. Humber (1-2, ERA 4.42) vs. NYY A. Burnett (3-0, ERA 4.37)
The key for tonight’s game will be the bats, as the New York bats have been hot. Led by Curtis Granderson, with seven homers on the season and an eight game hitting streak, the Yankees have won their last three and seven of their last nine games.
However, Granderson struggled against Chicago last season, while Derek Jeter hit .519 against the White Sox at home.
The reason the Yankees are always a postseason team is their depth, with the lineup stacked with players that can hit. The White Sox bats have not batted above .200 on the season.
The best bet is to follow the MLB odds and place your bet on the Yankees for tonight’s game.
