Worst Money Burning Pitchers in Baseball – Don’t Bother Laying Money on these Guys
May 14, 2010
Pitchers that burn holes in our pockets are just another day in the life of trying to beat the MLB odds. Here at BetOnline Sportsbook, we’ve got the five worst money burning pitchers in the bigs listed for you to steer clear of in the future.
Edwin Jackson, Arizona Diamondbacks (1-7, -$642) - So much for a man that was going to pay some major dividends! Don’t you think that the D’Backs would rather have back their host of minor leaguers and young potential than to have Jackson, a man who still hasn’t beaten a team of any credibility since arguably last June? Yes, it would be nice to see Jackson ultimately get some more help from his offense, as he has only gotten more than five runs of support once since moving to the desert, but he has to give up fewer than three runs in seven innings at some point as well, something that has only happened once this year.
Kenshin Kawakami, Atlanta Braves (0-6, -$636) – Another start, another ridiculously dismal effort for Kawakami, who conceded five runs in 6.2 innings in a 5-3 loss at Philadelphia last week. Now, the Japanese native is as bad as it gets at 0-6 in six starts with a 5.73 ERA. There’s a reason that he was stuck to bullpen duty at the end of last season, and if manager Bobby Cox wants to see his team’s MLB odds improve on a weekly basis, that’s probably where Kawakami belongs right now.
Felipe Paulino, Houston Astros (0-6, -$611) – Don’t blame this most recent loss on Paulino. The righty pitched well, allowing just five hits and two runs, just one of which was earned, in a 2-1 defeat to the Padres last week. A 4.67 ERA for the season isn’t great, but it certainly warrants better than an 0-5 record and losses for the team in six straight starts. However, when your team only gives you eight runs of support in your L/5 outings, you get what you have coming to you.
Javier Vazquez, New York Yankees (1-5, -$609) – Vazquez is the only New York starter that is really struggling nowadays. He only allowed two runs in seven frames of work against the Tigers on Wednesday, but the offense took a rare lapse at a bad time and handed the right-hander an ‘L’ in a 2-0 defeat. It was the first outing for Vazquez of longer than 5.1 innings with the Bronx Bombers.
Gil Meche, Kansas City Royals (0-6, -$600) – Nothing like being an underdog for all six of your starts and having the favorite go 6-0 in those six games. In fact, Meche is winless in his L/8 dating back to last season, and he hasn’t been favored in a game as a starter since July 1st of last year. Former manager Trey Hillman had to be happy with the last start that Meche had under his watch, as he threw a complete game and only allowed three runs, but lost to the Texas Rangers 3-2.
