Winning Horse Pick of the Day – Aqueduct Race 7

April 22, 2009

Hollywood Park starts their spring meet this Wednesday but I couldn’t find a race where a good overlay could be found.

BetOnline Racebook fans will have a better chance at finding an overlay in Race 7 at Aqueduct. Race 7, at 1 1/16th miles on the turf, should be one of the more competitive races of the day.

Let’s analyze Race 7 at Aqueduct on Wednesday.

Aqueduct – Race 7

Optional Claiming $30,000 n2x

For State Bred Three Year Olds and Up

1 1/16th miles on turf

Dantastic – - 9/2 morning line odds

This five-year old gelding out of Victory Gallop hasn’t won in a long time, but this race appears to be perfect for him to end the losing streak. Even after rearing at the start and then going wide in his last, Dantastic managed to finish third at the optional claiming $25,000 level. This race is a slight drop in class because that $25,000 race was for open company while this race is for state breads. There’s enough speed in this to set up his closing kick and jockey Rajiv Maragh should have him in good position from the outset.

Oedipus O’Neal – - 8/1 morning line odds

Oedipus O’Neal has a serious chance to break for the lead and hang on for a victory after getting blinkers for this race and breaking from the two hole. If some of the other speedsters decide to not go with him, then O’Neal could win this. Jockey Eibar Coa takes the call and moves him up at least three lengths in this.

Western Deed – - 5/1 morning line odds

Western Deeds goes back to the turf where he finished third in his only grass race. He can sit right off of Oedipus O’Neal which means he will be in the garden spot. That should be the place to be in this race and bettors can count on the fact that jockey Eddie Castro will get the most he can out of this guy. He’s yet another player going off at nice odds in this race.

Wagering Strategy

Dantastic deserves a bet to win and place if he holds his 9/2 odds. I will also put Dantastic, Western Deeds and Oedipus O’Neal into an exacta and trifecta box.
