Wild West Shootout – Phoenix Suns vs. Portland Trailblazers
March 26, 2009
The Phoenix Suns travel to Portland as big underdogs. The Suns have won six games in a row and should be a much tougher opponent for the Trailblazers than they were on December 18th of last year when they lost by 5 points. Phoenix is currently 40 and 31 straight-up and 29-39-2 ATS overall. Against the spread on the road, the Suns are 13-19-1.
The Trailblazers are a decent team. They took the Cleveland Cavaliers into overtime last week on the road. That in itself was impressive. Portland has a straight-up record of 44 and 27. Their record against the spread overall is 36 and 34. Their ATS record at home is 20 and 14.
Here is the BetOnline online sportsbook betting odds for this game.
Phoenix Suns +6 ½ -110 +240 O 221 ½ -110
Portland Trailblazers -6 ½ -110 -290 U 221 ½ -110
Here are a few online wagering trends for this game.
The Phoenix Suns are 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
The Over is 7 and 3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in Portland.
The Portland Trailblazers are 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games as the favorite.
The Over is 6-2-1 in the Portland Trailblazers last 9 games at home.
Phoenix will be playing their second game in a row after beating the Utah Jazz at home on Wednesday night. The Suns have really turned it on recently. During the six game winning streak they beat Denver by 3 and Philadelphia by 10.
Of course, Phoenix played 5 out of the 6 games at home and the lone road game was against the Golden State Warriors.
I’m inclined not to make a wager on either the Blazers or the Suns in this game. There’s no telling how the Suns will react having to travel to Portland from Phoenix for a back to back after playing against the Jazz on Wednesday night.
Instead of trying to find the winner against the spread, I’ll concentrate on betting the total in this game.
The last time these two teams met in December of 2008 they combined for 243 points. I see it going under that, but going over the 221 ½ listed in the Sportsbook.
To hit 222, one team would have to score 111 and the other team would have to score 110. Because Portland has no trouble running with the Suns, considering how much younger they are, I see this as a very entertaining game with one team possibly scoring over 120 points.
I’ll bet that this game goes over the BetOnline Total of 221 ½ points.
