Who will score the first touchdown in Super Bowl 2010

The prop Super Bowl bets always get more action than any other game in the NFL, and there’s a reason – there’s simply more fun to it. Besides the coin toss, the length of the national anthem and which product is featured in the first commercial, one of the most agonizing prop bets is the player to score the first touchdown. As far as Super Bowl predictions go, nailing this one is as difficult as trying to find your favorite DVD with a blindfold on and both of your hands chopped off (it’s an extra hard challenge since you’re bleeding to death).

The nail biting frustration of hitting this Super Bowl prop doesn’t stop it from fielding a ton of action. The two players leading the way are Joseph Addai and Pierre Thomas, the starting running-backs of each team at +500 and I’d say either of those would be a good call.

The safe money may lie with the tailbacks, but the real money is actually with the receivers. The problem here is that there are too many of them. Pierre Garcon is becoming a playoff hero and at +700 he could be a personal savior for you if he’s your Super Bowl prop bet. Robert Meachem and Jeremy Shockey stand at +1200. Wayne, Clark, Moore, Collie and Henderson are all in the running too.

The best long shot on the board is power back Mike Bell at +1500. He’s the goal line marauder of the Saints and if they’re able to get within a few yards of the end zone, they’re not going to risk throwing a pick. If Bell’s number gets called, there’s money to be won.

But who says you can only bet on one of them? While I don’t suggest you go throwing money around like you’re Nicolas Cage, banking on two or three big time players to bring home the bacon isn’t a bad idea. As far as Super Bowl predictions go, they’re all long shots…but that’s what makes the pay off so sweet.
