Weekend Stakes Races – Horse Picks to Pad your Bank Roll

The two best betting stakes races this weekend happen to be two of the biggest – - the Grade I Stephen Foster at Churchill Downs and the Grade II Californian at Hollywood Park.

He’s won his last two races, both grade ones, and did it by just being better than his competition. He’ll be tough in this. Researcher could challenge the top two for the win money. He gets Calvin Borel, is 4-3 out of 8 races at the distance, and will come into this off of a fantastic work on June 2nd.

Hollywood Park – Race 9

Grade II Californian Stakes

For Three Year Olds and Up

1 1/8 miles on cushion track

Dakota Phone has finished 3rd and 2nd in his last two races while making a fantastic late move. He’s 1-2-1 out of 4 lifetime races at Hollywood Park, this will be his third start off of a layoff, and he gets an extra 1/8th of a mile in which to catch Rail Trip and Ball Four. With Rail Trip, Mast Track and Ball Four going after each other early, closer Awesome Gem figures to get the perfect set up. He won’t get past Dakota Phone, but as the speed fades, he should be able to pick up second. Mast Track needs to get back on track after fumbling his way to a 7th place finish by 15 and ¾ lengths at Charles Town in his last. He should because there’s no doubt that he’s the classiest horse in this field and he’s a better stalker than both Rail Trip and Ball Four.
