Week One Lines – Make Your College Football Bets!
August 19, 2010
Hey fans, who’s ready to make some college football bets?
With the Week 1 lines out, let’s look at some of that weekend’s most exciting matchups!
Arizona Wildcats at Toledo Rockets: Friday, September 3: 8:00 p.m. ESPN
College Football Betting Lines:
Arizona: -15
Toledo: +15
After back-to-back eight win seasons, optimism is running high at Arizona. Optimism should be even higher based on the return of several stars off last year’s 41st ranked scoring offense. That unit could be even better in 2010, thanks to quarterback Nick Foles. He threw for 2,489 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2009, leading the Wildcats to an 8-5 record (6-7 ATS).
Their challenge will be a tough one opening night, as Toledo believes they can spring the upset. They are coming off a 2009 campaign that saw them rank 16th in college football in total yards (438 per game), while also ranking 16th in passing offense.
While the Rockets do have to replace four-year starting quarterback Aaron Opelt, they’ve got enough left to keep this game close. It appears that Austin Dantin will be under center, and against an Arizona defense that returns just four starters and lost their defensive coordinator- Mark Stoops- to Florida State, they will score points.
Arizona will win this game, but Toledo will cover. Take the Rockets as one of your opening weekend college football bets.

The Pick: Toledo +15
Purdue Boilermakers at Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Saturday, September 4: 3:30 p.m. NBC
College Football Betting Lines:
Purdue: +11
Notre Dame: -11
The Brian Kelly era will officially open on September 4, when Notre Dame and their new coach host Purdue.
It’s hard to know exactly what to expect from the Irish this year, but they should improve off last year’s team that went just 6-6, but lost their last four games (1-3 ATS).
Dayne Crist will take over at quarterback, after the illustrious Jimmy Clausen went to the NFL. Michael Floyd, a top receiver who caught nine touchdown passes, is back to provide a top target.
As for Purdue, they enter with more questions than answers, as former Miami Hurricane Robert Marve takes over under center for the departed Joey Elliott. The Boilermakers were dealt a brutal blow when leading rusher Ralph Bolden was lost for the season.
Regardless, the college football bet to make here is Notre Dame.
Kelly has been a winner everywhere he’s gone, and is coming off an impressive 18 game regular season winning at Cincinnati, where he won back-to-back Big East championships the last two years.
Take the Irish.
The Pick: Notre Dame -11
UConn Huskies at Michigan Wolverines: Saturday, September 4: 3:30 p.m. ABC
College Football Betting Lines:
UConn: +3
Michigan: -3
The stakes are high at Michigan for head coach Rich Rodriguez, after back-to-back non-bowl seasons for this proud program. They need to starting winning, and it needs to start September 4.
However, they get a brutal opener against a UConn team which was a favorite of bettors last year, finishing 9-4 against the spread (8-5 SU). They lost their five games by a combined 15 points.
The Huskies return talent in 1,000 yard rusher Jordan Todman and quarterback Zach Frazer, who led the Huskies to wins at Notre Dame and against South Carolina in the PapaJohns.com Bowl to close the year.
Michigan fans don’t want to hear this, but UConn is the play to make. They’re talented and experienced, and easily could have been a 10 win team last year.
Make them your college football bet today!
The Pick: UConn +3
