Week 8 NCAAF Odds Makers Giving Syracuse No Love vs. West Virginia
October 23, 2010
Week 8 NCAAF betting odds makers are giving the Syracuse Orange no love in their game versus the #19 West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday, Oct. 23rd.
The ‘Cuse are +14 point dogs versus the Mountaineers this Saturday. It’s been a few years since West Virginia lost coach Rich Rodriguez to the Michigan Wolverines, but, somehow, someway, they continue to be relevant in the over abundant Big East.

The trends justify the Week 8 NCAAF odds for this game.
- The Syracuse Orange is 2 and 7 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
- The Syracuse Orange is 3 and 7 ATS in their last 10 games as an underdog.
- The West Virginia Mountaineers are 4 and 0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
- The West Virginia Mountaineers are 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS victory.
The Week 8 NCAAF odds makers probably have hit the nail on the head in regards to this game. West Virginia, known for their offensive prowess, has become a solid defensive team lately. They’ve held UNLV to 10 points and South Florida to 6 points in their last 2 games.
The Mountaineers have become a veritable ATS stud at home. They’re 3 and 1 ATS at home and 4 and 2 ATS overall this season. What football handicappers need to realize about West Virginia’s ATS record is that the Mountaineers started out the season going 0 and 2 against the spread.
They’ve been brilliant since by going 4 and 0 ATS and covering against the spread versus Maryland, LSU (on the road in Baton Rouge!), UNLV and South Florida.
Save for a 6-point, 14 to 20, loss to LSU, the Mountaineers would probably be ranked in the Top 10 at this point in the season and clamoring for a BCS bowl berth. They still might if they continue to put a serious beat down on opposing teams.
Syracuse just isn’t as good as West Virginia. The Orange followed up their stunning upset of South Florida, a 13 to 9 victory as 8-point road dogs, by getting trounced by Pittsburgh 14 to 45 as 2 ½ point dogs. Based on that fact, I have to make the Syracuse Orange one of he best bets against the Week 8 NCAAF odds in the sportsbook.
The Orange just won’t be able to stop West Virginia’s offense and when they get the ball on offense, they’re going to have trouble moving it against a West Virginia D that allows only 162 passing yards and 83 rushing yards per game.
West Virginia should be around a 20 to 21 ½ point favorite but the Week 8 NCAAF odds makers have given football handicappers a gift. The Mountaineers will roll in this game.
NCAAF Betting Pick: West Virginia Mountaineers -14 -110
