Week 7 College Rankings – MWC Power Poll

October 13, 2009

The MWC has struggled more for sports betting fans than most conferences in America. Check out how they all stack up against each other coming into this week with BetOnline‘ power poll…

1: Wyoming Cowboys (4-1 ATS, 4-2 SU) (LW: 1) The Cowboys pulled off their third straight cover and SU victory on Saturday afternoon when they took out the Lobos 37-13 as double-digit favorites; Wyoming hadn’t had a three-game winning streak since 2006 and hasn’t won four in a row since ’05. Don’t look for that one to fall this week when they travel to Colorado Springs to take on the Falcons.

Up Next: Away @ Air Force (+10)

2: BYU Cougars (4-2 ATS, 5-1 SU) (LW: 2) BYU had just about everything going for it offensively against a UNLV defense that’s really struggling right now. QB Max Hall went 21/27 for 320 yards with two scores, while RB Harvey Unga had his best game of the season, rushing the ball for 149 yards and three TDs. The Cougs still need to be a lot more impressive if they hope to have any BCS chances.

Up Next: Away @ San Diego State (-17.5)

3: Colorado State Rams (2-3 ATS, 3-3 SU) (LW: 4) Colorado State couldn’t figure out how to pull off the upset of the Utes, but it did stick around the whole game and deservedly stuck in front of the nine-point college football betting line. Three QB Grant Stucker INTs proved to be the Rams’ undoing. After starting 3-0, that’s three straight losses for CSU. This week will almost certainly be loss #4.

Up Next: Away @ TCU (+20.5)

4: TCU Horned Frogs (2-3 ATS, 5-0 SU) (LW: 3) TCU bettors probably should’ve gotten a push against Air Force last weekend, but the Falcons hit the backdoor with less than a minute to play. Still, the Horned Frogs moved to 5-0 and one step closer towards the BCS. With back-to-back failed covers, TCU is going to have to be more impressive in these MWC challenges. That shootout with BYU is still looming two weeks from now.

Up Next: Home vs. Colorado State (-20.5)

5: Air Force Falcons (2-3 ATS, 4-2 SU) (LW: 5) Air Force’s rushing attack was stymied by TCU’s stout defense last weekend, and as a result, the Falcons only mustered 287 total yards of offense. Still, they were in the game the entire way and nearly shocked the Horned Frogs. The loss probably effectively assured that Air Force won’t be able to win the MWC title, especially with road games against Utah and BYU on the upcoming slate.

Up Next: Home vs. Wyoming (-10)

6: UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (1-4 ATS, 2-4 SU) (LW: 6) The only reason that UNLV is still in this poll is because the rest of the teams in the MWC have been equally as miserable. The Rebels have given up almost 1,400 yards of offense in their L/2 games. After allowing over 500 rushing yards to Nevada two weeks ago, the Rebs gave up 613 total yards to the Cougars. No wonder why this ‘D’ ranks 116th in the land at 476.3 yards per game.

Up Next: Home vs. Utah (+16.5)

And the rest…

7: Utah Utes (1-4 ATS, 4-1 SU) (LW: 7)
8: San Diego State Aztecs (1-4 ATS, 2-3 SU) (LW: 8)
9: New Mexico Lobos (1-5 ATS, 0-6 SU) (LW: 9)
