Alabama enters this game having already beaten three ranked opponents this season. And it was last weekend where they had their most impressive outing of the season, smacking around Florida, 31-6 in Tuscaloosa.
This Alabama offense is simply a juggernaut, as through five games, they’ve proven to be one of the most balanced teams in the country. Their bread and butter of course is the power running game, and the Tide have got quite a dynamic duo to handle the carries, Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, and sophomore stud Trent Richardson.
On the season, the two have combined for over 700 yards and seven touchdowns, with each averaging a staggering seven yards per carry. It doesn’t hurt the offense either that quarterback Greg McElroy is completing 70 percent of his passes, and has thrown seven touchdowns on the year.
Of course before you wager on the Week 6 college football odds, keep in mind that the South Carolina Gamecocks aren’t a bad football team themselves, entering this game 3-1 on the season. However, despite having an off week, they aren’t without controversy.
That’s because in South Carolina’s last game (a 35-27 loss at Auburn), the Gamecocks not only fell apart down the stretch, but played themselves right into a quarterback controversy. Two late fumbles by Stephen Garcia led to his benching, with freshman Connor Shaw replacing him.
While Coach Steve Spurrier announced that Garcia will get the start this Saturday, there’s no doubt he’s on a short leash.
The one hope the Gamecocks do have in this game though, is in freshman running back Marcus Lattimore. If they let him loose, South Carolina can spring the upset. On the young season, Lattimore has proven to be the Gamecocks best weapon, rushing for 366 yards and four touchdowns.
But against this Alabama defense, it just doesn’t seem likely that Lattimore will be able to run free. And with the pressure they’re going to put on Garcia in the pocket, there’s no doubt that the Crimson Tide should be your pick in the Week 6 College Football Odds.
Because really, for all the talk about Alabama’s offense, the story of the season has been the defense. Despite losing nine starters of last year’s unit, this group is somehow shockingly still leading the country in scoring defense, allowing just nine points per game.
They’ve also got college football ninth ranked run defense as well, and expect that unit to put the shackles on the young Lattimore. That’ll only put added weight on the shoulders of Garcia, and we’ve seen nothing to believe that’s a pressure he can handle.
In the end, the Tide simply have too much on both sides of this ball to a be a one touchdown favorite. Take Alabama to easily cover the Week 6 College Football Odds.
The Pick: Alabama -7
