Week 3 NCAAF Odds – Akron Zips vs. Kentucky Wildcats

September 18, 2010

You’re probably not the least bit surprised that the Akron Zips are winless thus far, but the Kentucky Wildcats are off to a nice start heading in to the Week 3 NCAAF odds. They’ll likely notch a third victory, which is crucial considering the five weeks of football they’ll have to play after that will bring hell upon them.

Standing at 2-0 ATS in 2010, the Kentucky Wildcats get one more layup before they hit the meat of their schedule and nobody expects them to escape it alive. They’ll face Florida, Mississippi, Auburn, South Carolina and Georgia over the next five weeks afterwards, which means they could very well be matched up against four ranked teams. At the least they’ll face three.

Leading the charge for the Wildcats against Week 3’s NCAAF odds is Randall Cobb, a junior receiver who had 5 catches for 98 yards, a receiving score, passing score and a return score to boot in a crushing 63-28 victory over Western Kentucky.

While Cobb is the main attraction for the Wildcats, the main man remains senior quarterback Mike Hartline. At 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, Hartline is a bean pole of a passer, but boy can he sling the ball. He’s completed 71.7 percent of his passes in 2010 and managed 430 yards and 3 touchdowns with zero interceptions.

Week 3 NCAAF Odds – Kentucky -25.5 (50.5)

I doubt Akron, which has been outscored 40-67 in their first two games of the season, will put up much of a fight. They’ve given up 822 total yards of offense, meaning that Hartline can basically pick his spots on Saturday night against a pitiful team.

Quarterback Patrick Nicely is anything but, completing just 46.4 percent of his passes. He has a lone touchdown and a pick this season with just 276 total yards passing, and has already been sacked 6 times. It certainly doesn’t help that the Akron Zips are winless in their last 5 road games, and 1-4 ATS against the NCAAF odds in those games.

The only thing you have to ask yourself is if Kentucky is able to clear a spread by around four touchdowns. The simple answer is a resounding “yes’, but only because they’re rallying against the Zips. After a layup game, Kentucky will have to prove its real mettle and they’ll use every minute of this game to fine tune themselves while busting the Week 3 NCAAF odds wide open.

After that, it’s pretty much doomsday for Kentucky.
