Wednesday College basketball betting – Big East Madness
March 9, 2011
The Big East is always one of the premier college basketball betting conferences in the land but the action takes on a whole new meaning come conference tournament time as the league gets the center stage treatment at Madison Square Garden and photo finishes are commonplace.
The tournament is perhaps the best early example of March Madness and that makes it an entertaining event to bet on. Tonight, two games featuring three NCAA Tournament teams (likely) and another underdog trying to play spoiler or perhaps make a run of its own will be broadcast on ESPN.
Who will march on toward the title game?
South Florida vs. Cincinnati, 7 pm ET:
The Bulls are fresh off a stunner in the opening round against Villanova and now they have a shot to keep their run going with a win over another tournament squad from the Big East.
Cincinnati meanwhile seems to be firmly in the tournament regardless of what happens in tonight’s game meaning this could be a situation in which another upset is imminent, at least according to some betting fans who are looking at the circumstances.
But the USF win in round one came over a now-dysfunctional Villanova team and in a game the Bulls trailed by 16 points in before having to come back.
Cinci has one of the best defenses in the country, giving up just 58 points per game, while USF scores only 62 a game.
The Bulls’ hopes of making a Cinderella run end here as the Bearcats will run away with this one and cover the 10 ½ point spread.
College basketball betting Pick: Cincinnati
Marquette vs. West Virginia, 9:25 pm ET:
Another ESPN-televised game pits two quality teams with balanced all-around lineups against each other.
West Virginia and Bob Huggins are favored by 2 going into this one in a game that might mean more to the college basketball betting underdogs from the great state of Wisconsin.
Marquette is one of the best scoring teams in the country but WVU has the firepower to compete with them in that department along with the defense to make work for every shot they get.
In terms of field goal percentage defense WVU is one of the best in the Big East and they will put their defense to good use against Marquette tonight.
While the Golden Eagles won the only meeting between the two teams this year, WVU is coming in feeling good about themselves after wins over Connecticut and Louisville toward the end of the season.
College basketball betting pick: WVU
