Weaver & Carpenter Duel it out – MLB Odds
May 24, 2010
The finale of the baseball betting Interleague series between the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the St. Louis Cardinals is set to go Sunday afternoon, and boy is it gonna be a good one with Jered Weaver opposing Chris Carpenter.
The Halos entered this three-game set on Friday night in decent form having swept the Chicago White Sox in their mini two-game set on Wednesday and Thursday. Manager Mike Scioscia’s club hasn’t been the greatest away from its own ballpark this season going 8-12 (-$207) overall.
The Cardinals are currently in the midst of playing their worst ball of the season having gone 4-6 (-$758) their L/10 overall games, and they come into this meeting with the Halos off a mini home series split with the Florida Marlins. The Redbirds have excelled at home 13-7, but they’ve cost their betting backers $126 on the year mostly due to just recently getting swept as lofty chalks against Houston (-$734).
These squads last faced one another back in 2007 when LA took two of three at Busch Stadium.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Game Date/Time: Sunday May 23rd, 2:15 ET
Game Location: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, MO
TV/Radio Broadcast: KCOP, KSDK, XM
After giving up a total of one ER to both the Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners in each of his previous two starts, Jered Weaver’s outing in Arlington came as quite a surprise as Weaver was rocked to the tune of nine hits and five ER’s while K’ing one and walking three through just 4.2 IP; the outing matched his shortest of the 2010 MLB betting season.
He’ll look to bounce back under the bright light of the sun where he’s failed to win but pitched admirably posting a 3.86 ERA & 1.37 WHIP through 11.2 innings of work. He’s 2-1 in three road starts this season.
Weaver sports a 6-3 record with a 3.41 ERA in 11 starts against the National League throughout his career.
Veteran righty Chris Carpenter enters his 10th start of the season 5-1 overall with a 2.80 ERA & 1.08 WHIP having allowed 50 hits and 19 ER’s with a K/BB ratio of 57/16 through 61 overall innings of work. The Redbirds are 7-2 in his nine overall starts, and he’s picked up a win in three of his L/5 outings.
He just tossed a season high 118 pitches his last time out against the pesky Washington Nationals allowing nine hits and two runs (1 ER) through eight IP of the Cardinals 3-2 home win.
It’s been almost a decade since he’s opposed the Angels last doing so while a member of the Toronto Blue Jays back in 2000.
MLB Insider Tip: The under is 7-2 in the Angels L/9 road games against an opponent with a +.600 home winning percentage, and 8-2-1 the L/11 times the Cardinals opposed a right-hander at home in Interleague play.
If this one shapes up to be anything other than the stellar pitching duel it looks to be on paper I’d be shocked.
Neither of these teams are hitting righties for anything right now (LA .240, STL .253), and the hitter friendly Busch Stadium should seriously aid both of these starters in this baseball betting series finale.
Look for the Weaver/Carpenter clash to live up to its billing and cash under tickets with ease!
My MLB Prediction: Los Angeles/St. Louis Under (Weaver/Carpenter)
