Washington is the College Football Game Lines Favorite over Syracuse
September 11, 2010
Although the Syracuse Orange are 1 and 0 on the season and the Washington Huskies are 0 and 1 so far this season, it’s the Huskies who are the college football betting game lines favorite this Saturday.
Syracuse beat Akron 29 to 3 last week but nobody believes that they’re going to have that same type of success against the Washington Huskies and QB Jake Locker.
The Huskies failed to live up to the hype in a 17 to 23 loss to the BYU Cougars last Saturday.

They’ll be looking to take out the frustrations regarding that loss on what appears to be an overmatched Syracuse squad.

This game is a toss up based on the trends.
- The Syracuse Orange is 6 and 0 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.
- The Syracuse Orange is 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 games in September.
- The Washington Huskies are 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss.
- The Washington Huskies are 2 and 5 ATS in their last 7 games in September.
This is yet another game where I don’t believe the college football game lines are where they should be. Washington is, at best, a 10-point favorite to protect their home field and beat the Syracuse Orange this Saturday.
Washington could have beaten BYU, yes, but they didn’t and nobody can tell me that BYU’s defense is better than Syracuse’s. The Orange held Akron to 166 total yards and only 9 first downs.
Yes, I know that Washington and Jake Locker have a very creative, ultra-good (at times!) offense, but Syracuse’s defense held Akron to only 3 points after 3 turnovers. They also didn’t allow Akron’s QB to throw a TD pass. Syracuse’s D was ranked 13th against the run last season. If they’ve found a way to shut down the pass, then this team could be a surprise in the Big East.
Washington’s Jake Locker is the real deal, but their defense needs some work. Washington’s D allowed BYU to rack up 23 first down and 408 total yards. I’m sure that Locker and the Huskies’ offense feels that they can outscore any team on the planet, but that’s not the way to beat a team like Syracuse.
What this game comes down to is the fact that the Orange should be a 10-point dog on the college football game lines not a 14-point dog. Those extra 4 points make my decision easy for me.
It’s Syracuse and the points.
