For Mike Brey’s club, Wednesday night was a huge wake-up call, as they blew a huge lead, and very nearly lost to Big East doormat Providence College. In that game, Notre Dame had a 10 points halftime lead, before having to hold on, as the Friars Marshon Brooks had the night of a lifetime, scoring 52 points. That 52 points was a new Big East record.

But still, don’t let one close game convince you to avoid the Irish in the Online Sports Book, because they’re still one of the smartest bets on the board. Notre Dame is skilled and experienced, with five seniors in their starting lineup. And they very well could be blessed with the nation’s best point guard, Ben Hansbrough. The senior, leads this club with 17.9 points and four assists per game, and is coming off a 32 point effort in Providence Wednesday.

As for the Irish’s Online Sports Book opponents here, well we just don’t know what to make of Seton Hall. The Pirates have skill in their lineup, but just can’t seem to win games when they need to. Seton Hall is just 1-4 straight up in their last five.

Still, they’ve got the players to make things interesting here, starting with guard Jeremy Hazell. The senior is one of the great pure scorers in college basketball right now, as he leads this club with 18 points a game, and has scored 20 or more in three of their last four. Also, Herb Pope is one of the elite rebounders you’ll find anywhere, as he grabs eight boards per game.

The problem for Seton Hall, and the reason we’re staying away from them in the Online Sports Book wagers is because of everyone else around Hazell and Pope. Simply put, they’re just not that good.

The truth is, Seton Hall is one of the worst offensive teams in the entire Big East, as they rank 200th or worse nationally in both points (66 per game) and field goal percentage (40.9 percent), numbers that won’t allow them to keep up with a Notre Dame club that averages just under 76 points per game. Seton Hall has been especially bad in their recent losses, failing to reach 60 points in three of their last four.

Notre Dame got a terrible scare last Wednesday, but back at home, against a team that’s not nearly as good, there’s nothing to fear here.

Our pick in the Online Sports Book is clear: Back Notre Dame
