Utah at Iowa State – College Football Betting
October 9, 2010
The Iowa State Cyclones and Utah Utes will match up in one of the most unorthodox games on the slate this Saturday for college football betting fans. The Utes are one of the best non-BCS teams in the country yet again while the Cyclones have new life after surprising Texas Tech and have won two straight games to move to a winning on the year as they near the meat of their Big 12 schedule.
Who has the edge in this contest going into the weekend?
Utah Utes (4-0) at Iowa State Cyclones (3-2)
7 pm ET
College Football Betting Line: Utah favored at -6.
The Cycles aren’t known too well in most betting circles but they have some unique advantages in this game.

They have the continuity of having veteran dual threat QB Austin Arnaud at the helm in this game, which is important in one of this magnitude for the fledgling ISU program, and they also have the benefit of a surprisingly strong home crowd.
The Cyclones do well at night as they are a perfect 8-0 in night games under coach Paul Rhoads. But the Utes do well against BCS teams and won’t be intimidated playing in a hostile environment. The spread is seen as too small by many college football betting fans because of the huge gap in recent overall success between the two programs.
In addition, Utah is a crafty team that is about as well-coached as any in the nation and with head coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff coming off a bye week, the Utes have a great chance to come out and stun the Cyclones from the opening drive. Whittingham is 5-0 when leading his team into a game after a bye week.
Many people also believe that the Big 12 North is actually weaker than the Mountain West as well which is another concern that has some betting fans shaking their heads of the spread.
In the end, those feelings will prove to be right as the Utes will win this one with a well-put together offensive game plan as usual with the bedrock of their victory coming from their tough, well-coached defense as well.
The Utes are 7th nationally in points per game allowed and they also have an offense that is capable of breaking the game open with big plays in space; it’s where the Utes thrive despite their above-average overall team speed.
College Football Betting Pick: Utah Utes (-6).
