Un-Bull-ievable – Celtics and Bulls Game 7 Pick

May 1, 2009

Bulls To Crash The Boston Tea Party

You can hate on Joakim Noah all you want, but when this guy is a dark horse for the Bulls. With unrivaled energy, it’s no wonder that he’s digging out the eyes of Boston betting backers. A steal, followed by an and-1, killed the Boston Celtics in a thrilling triple-overtime game. Now Noah and the rest of the Chicago Bulls face the daunting task of hitting the road to end this series in seven.

Noah in particular has been exceptional, showing glimpses of why he led the Florida Gators to back-to-back NCAA Basketball Championships. While I’m not one to assume that he can carry the Bulls, he’s certainly got their wheels spinning. Noah has posted 10.7 points and 12.8 rebounds this series, serving his exact purpose. So why are the Bulls such heavy dogs on the road?

#7 Chicago Bulls vs. #2 Boston Celtics
Saturday, May 2nd — TD Banknorth Garden, Boston — 8:00pm EST
NBA Betting Line: Boston -6.5 (196.5)

If we’ve learned anything from this series, it’s that Chicago is far more talented and motivated than we assumed. This series has been an unreal classic, even though it would’ve been a wash if Kevin Garnett had been a presence. Either way, this line is far too big. The winning margin in the last three games has been +3.0 points. There is no way the sharp shooting Bulls are going down without a fight. Bulls cover in the OVER.

NBA Betting Trends:

  • Chicago is 15-7 SU in its last 22 games
  • Chicago is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
  • Chicago is 4-11 SU in its last 15 games on the road
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Chicago’s last 6 games on the road
  • Chicago is 4-9 SU in its last 13 games when playing Boston
  • Boston is 15-5 SU in its last 20 games
  • Boston is 5-14 ATS in its last 19 games at home
  • Boston is 11-1 SU in its last 12 games at home

So now that I’ve got my pick out of the way, I do want to visit the idea of this series being a “classic”. In short, it can’t be called that because Boston is not at their best. Sure it’s been entertaining, thrilling, exciting, heart stopping, fist-pumping and exhilarating…but I can’t call it a “classic” unless both teams are at their absolute best. I can say that about Chicago, but I can’t say that about Boston.

What I will say is this – I’m not sure if Kevin Garnett’s absurd passion for winning can handle losing in the first round while he’s on the sidelines. Can we ensure that there’s at least seven paramedics around KG at all times during Game 7? Can we also make sure he doesn’t become so enraged during the game that he punches Joakim Noah in the throat? Thanks, team.

NBA Furious Free Pick: Chicago +6.5 (OVER)
