U.S. Open Odds – Can’t Look Past Westwood as Top European to Bet

June 16, 2010

I tried to look past Lee Westwood as the Top European to bet in the golf sportsbook to win this week’s U.S. Open Golf Championship, but I can’t. It’s impossible.

Westwood is playing as well as any golfer in the world right now. He’s absolutely on fire. I just can’t look past him to beat up on his European golfing buddies.

With that being written, my underdog in this category might be a good golf bet as well to win the U.S. Open. Remember, all he has to do is beat the other Europeans.

U.S. Open Golf Championship

Where: Pebble Beach Resort, Pebble Beach, CA

When: June 17th thru June 20th

TV: ESPN/NBC

Top European

Best Golf Bet A: Lee Westwood +300

His 2nd place finish at the Masters was nice, but his 4th place finish at The Players Championship was more impressive because it was a sign that he’s just playing very well right now. He followed up his 4th at TPC Sawgrass by winning last week’s St. Jude Classic. Not only is Lee playing better than any other golfer in the field going into this tournament, he’s playing with the Eye of the Tiger meaning that he expects to win, he doesn’t just want to win.

Best Golf Bet B: Luke Donald +700

American golfing fans might not know enough about Luke Donald to decide on whether he’s a good bet to beat his fellow Euros at +700 in the golf sportsbook. Well, he is. He’s 7th in the Race to Dubai Standings, and has finished 2nd, 1st and 3rd at his last 3 European Tour Tournaments. The victory was at the Madrid Masters. This guy can golf.

Worst Golf Wager: Padraig Harrington +700

He’s receiving so much respect in the sportsbook because of his name not because of how he’s been golfing lately. Paddy missed the cut at The Players Championship and finished 56th last week at the St. Jude Classic. He also missed the cut at the Masters Tournament. He’s just not playing well right now.

Best Underdog Bet: Miguel Angel Jimenez +3000

Jimenez has done well at Pebble Beach before but that’s not the real reason to consider him in this category. The real reason to consider him is because he’s already won a tournament in 2010 and finished 8th at the Celtic Manor Wales Open in his last start on the European Tour. He also finished tied for 12th at the Masters. Jimenez has the ability to be very tough in major championships. The golf odds are more than fair on him to just beat the Euros this week.

Others To Consider

Paul Casey +1000 – - His 13th place finish at the Crowne Plaza Invitational might be a sign that he’s come back around to his best form.

Graeme McDowell +1500 – - His American form isn’t all that great but his European form has been fantastic. He finished 4th at the Madrid Masters and won the Celtic Manor Wales Open.

Martin Kaymer +1500 – - He missed the cut at the Masters and finished in 34th place at The Players Championship but he finished 3rd at the WGC-CA and 12th at the Celtic Manor Wales Open.

It’s U.S. Open Week! Log onto the golf sportsbook and bet the U.S. Open!
