U.S. Open Odds – Best Tournament Matchup Golf Bets for the 2nd Major of the Year
June 16, 2010
The first thing I noticed when checking out the tournament matchups in the golf sportsbook for this week’s U.S. Open is that Phil Mickelson is favored to beat Tiger Woods.
Why is that strange? Because El Tigre is +600 in the golf sportsbook to win the U.S. Open while Lefty is +700, or, I should say, El Tigre was at +600 until this morning when his golf odds changed to +700.
It looks like money is pouring in on Phil! Let’s check out the best tournament matchup bets the U.S. Open Golf Championship.
PGA Tour: U.S. Open Golf Championship
Where: Pebble Beach Resort, Pebble Beach, CA
When: June 17th thru June 20th
TV: ESPN/NBC
Tournament Matchups
- Phil Mickelson -130 vs. Tiger Woods Ev – - Save for that amazing performance in 2000, where Tiger destroyed the rest of the field, El Tigre hasn’t had terrific success at Pebble Beach. Oh, he’s done okay, but contrary to popular thinking, Tiger doesn’t own Pebble Beach. Neither does Phil, by the way, but Lefty’s played much better than Tiger this year and deserves to be the favorite in this matchup. He’s also the pick.
Pick: Phil Mickelson
- Dustin Johnson -115 vs. Camilo Villegas -115 – - Villegas has a bigger name than Johnson, but Johnson has won at Pebble Beach recently while Villegas has been struggling overall. Dustin’s understanding of the course, and his ability to excel over it, makes him an easy golf bet in this matchup.
Pick: Dustin Johnson -115
- Zach Johnson -125 vs. Stewart Cink -105 – - Cink came to life in his last tournament start finishing 8th at the Memorial, but Zach was phenomenal at the Crowne Plaze Invitational. Johnson’s 12th at the St. Jude Classic is a sign that he’s got his game back after that horrible 47th finish at the Memorial.
Pick: Zach Johnson
- Lee Westwood -125 vs. Tiger Woods -105 – - Westwood is just flat out hot. The man is coming off of a victory at the St. Jude Classic, finished 2nd at the Masters and 4th at The Players Championship. He should have no problem with El Tigre this week.
Pick: Lee Westwood
- Phil Mickelson -120 vs. Lee Westwood -110 – - As much as I love Lefty, there’s no way that I can put up -120 vs. Lee Westwood’s -110. Westwood has been playing better than Phil overall even though Phil beat him at the Masters Tournament. I don’t see that happening again. I see Westwood winning the U.S. Open this week. That means he should also beat Phil in this tournament matchup.
Pick: Lee Westwood
- Jim Furyk +105 vs. Tiger Woods -125 – - El Tigre just hasn’t inspired much confidence in 2010 while Fury has won 2 tournaments and is coming off of a 10th place finish at the Memorial Tournament. This is one golf bet where the underdog has a better chance of winning then what the golf odds indicate.
Pick: Jim Furyk
