2 huge Big East matchups, where the home teams no doubt will be the college basketball betting favorites, highlight early NCAA BB games on Saturday, January 29th.

The other big early game pits ranked Minnesota vs. ranked Purdue in a Big Ten clash. Below is a preview of each game.

#19 Louisville Cardinals (16-4) at #5 Connecticut Huskies (17-2)

Where: Harry A. Gampel Pavilion, Storrs, Connecticut

When: 12:00 pm EST

Fair Basketball Odds: Louisville +8 ½

Analysis: Hoops online sports betting fans are going to jump all over the Huskies in this contest. Connecticut is 7 and 3 in their last 10 games against the spread and 10 and 3 ATS overall. The problem is that L’Ville’s D is one of the best in the nation. It holds teams to under 65 points per game and less than 40% from the field. Teams shoot only 31% from behind the arc versus Louisville. The Cardinals aren’t as good of a team as Connecticut but I see the odd makers giving L’Ville way, way too many points in this game. Rick Pitino’s squad should be able to keep it under the number if it’s at 8 ½ or higher like I suspect it will be and get this…Pitino’s squad is 5-1-1 against the spread in the last 7 meetings between these two.

#20 Georgetown Hoyas (15-5) at #7 Villanova Wildcats (17-3)

Where: The Pavillion, Villanova, Pennsylvania

When: 12:00 pm EST

Fair Basketball Odds: Georgetown +8 ½

Analysis: This classic matchup between two long time Big East rivals hasn’t lost any steam since 1986 when ‘Nova upset Patrick Ewing and the John Thompson coached Hoyas for the NCAA Tournament trophy. ‘Nova is the better team nowadays and figures to be a huge favorite in the college basketball sportsbook to trounce G’Town on Saturday. I’m not biting. After losing 3 straight, to St. John’s, West Virginia and Pitt, the Hoyas have bounced back with 3 straight victories both straight up and against the spread. G’Town is also 5 and 2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two. ‘Nova will probably have more Big Dance success come March, but G’Town should score an against the spread victory at the very least on January 29th.

#18 Minnesota Golden Gophers (16-4) at #12 Purdue Boilermakers (17-4)

Where: Mackey Arena, West Lafayette, Indiana

When: 1:00 pm EST

Fair Basketball Odds: Minnesota +7 ½

Analysis: It’s hard not to be a fan of the Golden Gophers. They’ve won 4 games in a row versus the NCAA moneyline odds, and have gone 3 and 1 ATS in those last 4 games. Their lone loss against the spread was by a single point in a 69 to 59 victory over Iowa as -11 point home favorites. Minnesota is 12 and 5 ATS overall versus a team with a winning percentage above .600. Purdue has fallen on hard times lately with 3 straight up losses in their last 5 games. One of the losses included getting spanked by #1 ranked Ohio State 87 to 64 in their last. I like the Gophers to keep this contest close on Saturday.
