Tuesday College Hoops Betting – Horizon Mid-Con Bids At Stake
March 8, 2011
The NCAA college hoops betting scene has turned to the mid-major conference’s championships in the past few days and two bids from underrated leagues are up for grabs again tonight.
ESPN and ESPN2 will broadcast the Horizon and Summit Conference’s title games featuring a total of four mostly-Midwest teams that could make some noise in the NCAA Tournament with a little bit of luck.
Who will come out on top in tonight’s action as two more tickets to the dance are punched?
Butler vs. Milwaukee, 9 pm ET, ESPN:
Butler, last year’s NCAA Tournament runner-up in a loss to Duke, will now take on the UW-Milwaukee Panthers with another bid on the line.
Bubble teams will definitely be rooting for the favored Bulldogs of Butler, who come in at -3, as they have a slight chance to make the tourney as an at-large on reputation, although they’re just 22-9 in a below-average conference.
Many people are predicting a UW-Milwaukee upset as they are the trendy pick, since the Panthers gave Butler 2 of their 9 losses including a blowout win at home and an overtime win on the road.
UW-Milwaukee tied Butler for the league lead at 13-5 in conference as well.
But in this one it’s hard to bet against Butler, who still has key contributors Sheldon Mack and Matt Howard from last year’s team and its incredible run.
Howard’s injury woes cost Butler quite a bit but he’s back and Butler looks ready to make a run as long as they get past star forward Anthony Hill and the Panthers tonight.
College hoops betting pick: Butler
Oakland vs. Oral Roberts, 9 pm ET, ESPN2:
The Oakland (MI) Golden Grizzlies are playing to put their school on the map, or more specifically for people to realize they’re actually from Michigan and not California like the NFL’s Raiders.
The Grizzlies boast one of the best big men in the country that hardly anyone (except NBA scouts) knows about in Keith Benson who is a fine shot blocker and a good athlete for a true center.
Oakland is favored by 4 ½ points going into this one and considering they just exploded for 110 points in their last game have an excellent chance of covering the spread should they win.
ORU has talented scorers as well as they have been put up numerous 90+ point games during a 10-game win streak.
But Oakland is on a 7-gamer of their own and they also have two wins over ORU this season.
Go with the Grizzlies who have the edge on the inside with Benson as long as he stays out of foul trouble.
College hoops betting pick: Oakland
