Tuesday College basketball betting – #3 Ohio State, #18 Vandy in action

February 23, 2011

The Buckeyes of Ohio State and Vanderbilt Commodores are among the ranked teams looking to continue building their resumes tonight with wins in Tuesday’s college basketball betting action.

OSU may have been knocked out of the top spot in the polls by Purdue but there’s no time to feel sorry for themselves as they have a veteran, quality Illinois team coming to town for another difficult test in the nation’s top RPI conference, the Big Ten. Illinois is in desperate need of one more win to solidify their tournament standing.

Tennessee has had an up-and-down year but they’re still in the NCAA Tournament picture, and they have a shot at a big win on the road against #18 Vandy tonight.

With so much on the line, Tuesday’s college basketball online betting action is sure to be intense. Who comes out on top?

Illinois at #3 Ohio State, 7 pm ET:

The Buckeyes are favored by 10 ½ going into this one despite being blitzed by Purdue on Sunday.

OSU has a quick turnaround going into this one but they are a veteran team outside of Jared Sullinger, the superstar freshman F/C.

That will help them against an Illini team that knows how to play, as will Illinois’ cold shooting as of late.

Illinois is coming off a tough road loss to Michigan State and their tournament standing is slipping, meaning they should be up for this one.

Mike Davis and Mike Tisdale give Illinois an inside combo that can give Sullinger trouble with their height and length theoretically, but Sullinger dropped 27 and 16 against them in the first game.

Expect the Illini to do a better job on Sullinger this time around, however, and the Illini are also due for a better shooting game beyond just Demetri McCamey doing well.

Ohio State has won the last four in the series SU but Illinois has the advantage of being more desperate going into this one which will allow them to keep it fairly close.

College basketball betting pick: Illinois (+10 ½).

Tennessee at Vanderbilt, 9 pm ET:

The Commodores haven’t gotten a lot of hype on the season, probably less than Tennessee in fact despite their ranking at #18 currently.

Vandy is on a five-game win streak coming in and guard John Jenkins gives them a player who can take a game over at any point.

Tennessee won by 3 at home earlier in the year but they were playing much better back then and Vanderbilt seems to match up well with the Vols.

College basketball betting pick: Vanderbilt (-5 ½).
