Transitions Championship Top 10 – Tigers Away, Others can Play
March 18, 2009
Both Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods will be absent for the Transitions Championship this week.
Lefty, that’s Mickelson, ended up winning the WGC-CA by 8 strokes over Tiger. It looks like Woods is warming up while Mickelson is in good form.
Since neither guy is going to play in the Transitions Championship this week, it means that some of the odds on golfers in the sportsbook will be lower than usual for them to finish in the Top Ten.
Let’s analyze some of the golfers with a chance to finish in the Top Ten in the Transitions Championship.
Golf: Transitions Championship Top Ten
1. Nick Watney +225 – - Watney finished second to Mickelson at Doral last week. He will be looking to ride that second place finish to a victory in the Transitions Championship this week. With no Phil to take him down, Watney has a terrific chance to finish at least in the Top Ten. At higher than expected odds, he has to be considered one of the better wagers in the sportsbook.
2. Jim Furyk -110 – - The Transitions is setting up as Jim Furyk’s usual lone victory of the year. No Tiger, no Phil, no Vijay, no Padraig Harrington. Furyk is a huge favorite to finish in the Top Ten at odds that are lower than even money. He shouldn’t disappoint because he’s coming off of a 3rd place finish in the WGC-CA.
3. Kenny Perry +180 - – Bettors are getting almost 2 to 1 on Perry who finished tied for 9th at Doral last week to finish in the Top Ten this week. Perry should have a shot at the victory after playing so well last week. He’ll at least put in a good run on Sunday which means a Top Ten finish is likely.
4. Sean O’Hair +165 – - Even though O’Hair didn’t get into the Top Ten last week, he’s one of the favorites to finish in the Top Ten in the Transitions Championship because he won this tournament last year. O’Hair didn’t swing badly last week and only needs to make a few adjustments to finish in the Top Ten in the Transitions.
5. Steve Stricker +180 – - Here’s another golfer that’s doing well enough to garner Top Ten consideration. Stricker finished tied for 13th in the WGC-CA, just a stroke off of Tiger and three strokes off of Camilo Villegas. He should be in a position for a Top Ten finish this Sunday in the Transitions Championship.
6. Rod Pampling +275 – - He finished tied for 9th in the WGC-CA and should build upon that in the Transitions. The odds on Pampling are almost 3 to 1 which mean he’s a good wager because he’s an overlay in this. I see Pampling making a good enough run to finish in the Top Ten.
Best Long Shots
Charley Hoffman +400 – - Hoffman shot a 10 under in the WGC-CA. That was good enough for a 13th place finish. He’s not a huge long shot at +400 but he’s playing well enough for gamblers to consider for a Top Ten finish in the Transitions Championship.
Bubba Watson +800 – Watson is one of the biggest long shots in the sportsbook to finish in the Top Ten. He had a terrible WGC-CA when shooting a 4 over and finishing in 72nd place. But he could bounce back because he’s made the cut in 5 out of the 6 tournaments he’s played in this year.
