Here are some NCAA Basketball Betting Trends which may impact this game:
Texas: 0-2 ATS in their last 2 games
Texas: Total has gone OVER in their last two games
Iowa State: 1-2 ATS in the last 3 games
Iowa State: 4-3 ATS at home
It’ll be the No. 1 road show in college basketball Wednesday night, when undefeated and top ranked Texas travels to Ames, IA to take on the Iowa State Cyclones.
To say that Texas is rolling right now would be an understatement. They haven’t lost yet, are ranked No. 1 in the country, are college basketball’s second best scoring team, and have its No. 5 defensive field goal ranking. And the scary part is that the Longhorns only seem to be getting better.
It’s hard to say who exactly is the leader of Texas, because they’re just so deep. Probably, you’d have to start down low with a pair of seniors that are simply a matchup nightmare for anyone, Dexter Pittman and Damion James. The two combine to average 31 points and 18 rebounds, and are not only low post bangers, but can step out and hit jump shots as well.

On the perimeter, Avery Bradley- one of college basketball’s top recruits last season- is making his case to be the Big XII freshman of the year. He is currently third on this team at scoring with 11 per game, but dropped a career-high 29 against Colorado on Saturday. Fellow freshman J’Covan Brown and senior Dogus Balbay join Bradley in the backcourt.
As for Iowa State, the home team will be playing their first conference game Wednesday night. Junior forward Craig Brackins leads the way, although he has been unable to match his excellent numbers from a year ago, when he was one of the top players in the Big XII. Undersized senior Marquis Gilstrap joins Brackins in the frontcourt, averaging 14 points and eight rebounds per game. Junior Diante Garrett leads this team with over five assists per game.
No. 1 Texas is rolling coming into this game, but is there any chance they might slip up at Iowa State? It doesn’t seem likely. Yes, the Hilton Coliseum has always been a tough place to play, but Iowa State does not have the athletes to matchup.
And the biggest mismatch will be on the inside, where Texas has a major edge. The scariest thing about the Longhorns is their depth. Even if Pittman or James isn’t having a good game, the Longhorns still bring in more size off the bench with Gary Johnson, Jordan Hamilton and others. Expect that to wear down an Iowa State team that is not particularly deep, and not deep at all in the frontcourt.
Texas will eventually lose a game this season, but it won’t be Wednesday night to Iowa State. The Longhorns simply have too much talent and skill, and will get their 17 th win of the season. Take the Longhorns in the college basketball betting odds.
Aaron’s Pick: Texas by 15
