Today’s Play of the Day from Aqueduct
March 20, 2009
We started off the week on Wednesday padding our bankroll in the racebook in a nice way. The play of the day returned a $5.10 winner, a $28.00 exacta and a trifecta that paid $178.50.
Then our Late Pick 3 play, a $24 investment, returned $113.25 to cap off the day, thanks mainly to Only a Vision, who started the three race sequence paying $17.00 to win.
More action from the Big A for Thursday, where rain is in the forecast:
Today’s Play of the Day from Aqueduct:
AQU Race 3 Alw $50,000s (1:58 et)
#2 Victorious Dream 3/1
#1 Kissa Melissa 8/5
#6 One Tough Belle 5/2
#3 Classical Fashion 12/1
Analysis: #2 Victorious Dream was bumped coming out of the gate, sent up to vie for the early lead and weakened late to finish third, beaten 1 3/4 lengths for the top spot. The filly regressed off a game win two back against $20K non winners of two where she prevailed by a neck with the runner up and third place finisher came back to win their next starts. She adds blinkers here for her third start of her current form cycle. She has a decent off track pedigree if the rains do indeed come.
#1 Kissa Melissa finished well to beat $30K non winners of three, earning the top last out speed fig in the effort. She was claimed out of her last start by the low profile Friedman barn that is showing a 1 for 7 mark first off the claim. Going back five years that numbers are 1 for 37. She comes in here sharp and handles a wet track.
Wagering
WIN: #2 to win at 2/1 or better.
EX: 1,2 / 1,2,3,6
TRI: 1,2 / 1,2,3,6 / 1,2,3,5,6
Today’s Pick 3 Play from Aqueduct:
Starting in Race 7: $1: 4,5,6,7 / 2,4 / 2,5,8 = $24
AQU Race 7 Alw $50,000s (3:55 et)
#7 Please Impress, #6 Wolfson, #5 Jack On the Rocks, #4 General Perfect
#7 Please Impress is coming off a game second against state bred Alw-2 optional claimers. The gelding had a tough trip, having to steady in traffic at the quarter pole, split runners and finished well while grabbing the runner up spot in the final strides. The gelding caught a surface that was playing to inside speed that day. His career top came three back when winning in the slop at the Big M. The gelding is making his third start of his current form cycle for Dutrow and looks like a good spot for him here.
#6 Wolfson swung out wide in the stretch and finished well for the runner up spot, also catching a surface that was playing to inside speed. The colt was claimed out of the race by the Galluscio barn that is on the light side first off the claim, hitting at a 6% clip.
AQU Race 8 OClm $100,000C (4:25 et)
#4 Broadway Producer, #2 Believeinmenow
#4 Broadway Producer gets some class relief after checking in fifth last out in the G2 General George at Laurel going seven furlongs. He looks better suited going two turns and looks like he is going to be very tough here in this compact field. Two back over the surface here going lone he came up just a neck short of winning the Evening Attire. He came up short to winner Barrier Reef, who returned to win the $71K Stymie in his next start on 2/28. He has a win in three starts on wet tracks and came back with a bullet work on 3/12. Plenty to like about this guy in this spot except for the price.
#2 Believeinmenow returned to beat Alw-3 optional claimers last out after crossing the wire first two back only to get DQ’d. HIs last pair of speed figs are tops in here. Looks like a short exacta and a tough race to wager on.
AQU Race 9 Clm $7,500N1Y (4:55 et)
#2 Paige Nicole, #8 City in the Clouds, #5 Demaliat
#2 Paige Nicole tracked the early pace, angled out for the stretch drive and got to the front but could not hold off the winner late, settling for the runner up spot. The mare has done some of her best running on wet tracks (8-2-2-1) and she owns a solid pace profile throughout.
#8 City in the Clouds tracked the early pace from the outside and was not good enough late, checking in third against open $10K foes going a mile. Her last win came at six furlongs and she figures to appreciate the cut back in distance and dropping in to face non winners of a race in six months.
Price Plays:
These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
