Today’s Pick 3 Play from Aqueduct

January 9, 2010

The bombs may not be flying at Aqueduct on Friday, as I came up with just three longshots on today’s Price Plays list, the shortest list I can recall for months.

However, that won’t stop us from attempting to pad our bankroll, and the Late Pick 3 today looks very intriguing.

Our $24 investment includes a pair of 15/1 longshots in the three race sequence, and if we can get one of them home first, we could be looking at a nice payoff.

Today’s Pick 3 Play from Aqueduct:

Starting in Race 7: $1: 5,6,8 / 1,3 / 1,9,11,13 = $24

AQU Race 7 Clm $25,000B (3:20 ET)

#6 Olde Glamour, #5 Royal Valentine, #8 Slammin Kat

#6 Olde Glamour is dropping out of an open $35K claimer where the filly has to steady inside the final furlong when lacking running room, checking in seventh. This gal was good enough to win a restricted stake at Belmont Park back in June in gate to wire fashion, but her form has gone south since. She makes her third start of her current form cycle and she has done some of her best running going lone including breaking her maiden here going two turns. Martin finds a good spot here dropping her in for $25K and facing non-winners of three.

#5 Royal Valentine is also stretching out from six furlongs. Last out she chased a sharp early pace and weakened to finish sixth, her first go for the Ferraro barn, who took her for $15K two back where she beat non-winners of two. Migs takes the call and she should be in the mix early at a generous price.

AQU Race 8 OClm $50,000N2X (3:49 ET)

#1 Cape Cod Girl, #3 Salt Water Reign

#1 Cape Cod Girl was beaten at 4/5 last out, setting the early fractions and handling on gamely, beaten 3/4 of a length for the top spot in the mud versus Alw-3 optional claimers. The five-year-old mare drops a notch in class and won at this condition three back in NJ. She owns the edge in early and mid pace numbers and fits well in this spot.

#3 Salt Water Reign made a mild late rally to finish third last out at this condition in her first go off a five-month layoff. She has done her best work sprinting but looks capable at least pedigree wise to handle a mile. She has run well on the inner (9-4-1-3) and should be tighter for her second start off the bench.

AQU Race 9 Clm $7,500N1Y (4:18 ET)

#9 Remorse, #13 Laudable, #1 Zip to the City / #1a Natural Speed, #11 Four Star General

This race is for non-winners of a race in five months and it sure came up very weak. The nod to longshot #9 Remorse, who tracked the early pace from the inside and ran into traffic troubles in the stretch and faded to finish last. Two back this gelding set the early fractions and drifted out, weakening to finish third against open $7.5K foes. The winner of the race was Sonny’s One, who returned to beat $7.5K claimers on Dec. 4. The gelding is dropping into restricted company, has some early zip, and should be in the mix early. Worth a stab if we catch most of the 15/1 ML.

#13 Laudable needs a scratch to get in off the AE list. The six-year-old drops out of a $16K non-winners of a race in six months where he faded to finish seventh. He is going in the wrong direction since Parisella claimed him for $20K three back and this barn generally does good work with recent claims. He could bounce back here if he draws in.

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
