Tiger is Once Again an Underlay Golf Bet to Finish in the Top 10

Tiger Woods is once again an underlay golf bet to finish in the Top 10 this week. The PGA Tour starts the FedEx Cup Playoffs this week with the best on the Tour traveling to Paramus, NJ for The Barclays.

And Tiger Woods is going off at low odds to finish in the Top 10 even though he hasn’t done so in four straight tournaments. In fact, El Tigre hasn’t finished in the Top 20 in four straight tournaments.

Let’s take a look at the best and worst bets in the Top 10 category for this week’s The Barclays.

Best Bet A: Matt Kuchar +270

Kuchar is easily the best golf bet in the Top 10 category. Nobody comes close because even though Kuchar has finished in the Top 10 in 5 out of the last 7 tournaments, he’s going off at better golf odds than Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Paul Casey, Padraig Harrington, Ernie Els and Dustin Johnson to just finish in the Top 10 at The Barclays. Kuchar is what I call an overlay bet!

Best Bet B: Paul Casey +225

Casey can be just as good as Rory, El Tigre and Lefty on any given day. While those guys are going off at -110 in the sportsbook to finish in the Top 10 at The Barclays, Casey is going off at +225. Paul’s 12th at the PGA Championship was almost a Top 10 and he ended that tournament with a 69 in the 4th round meaning that he’s going into The Barclays hot.

Worst Golf Wager: Tiger Woods -110

Could Tiger surprise and get into the Top 10 this week? Of course, he could, but why would golf bettors take such low golf odds on El Tigre at -110 when there are so many better prices in the sportsbook? Tiger hasn’t hit the Top 20 in four straight tournaments and it doesn’t look like his mind is anywhere close to being where it should be in order to get into the Top 10 this week.

So, yes, he could surprise but at -110, he’s a definite non-wager in my opinion.

Best Underdog Bet: Brendan De Jonge +810

Before his 48th at the PGA Championship, De Jonge had finished 9th at the Travelers Championship, 7th at the John Deere Classic and 3rd at the Greenbrier Classic. In fact, before the PGA Championship, De Jonge had finished in the Top 10 in 3 out of his last 6 tournaments.

He’s got an outside shot to finish in the Top 10 this week at The Barclays and deserves some consideration as a golf bet at +810 odds.

Others To Consider

Rory McIlroy -110 – - He’s the only one I’d take a shot on at low odds because he’s finished in the Top 10 at the last three tournaments.

Ernie Els +250 – - Ernie appears to be back on track after the 18th at the PGA Championship. He should definitely be in the Top 10 this week and is offering square odds.

Padraig Harrington +250 – - Paddy’s a loose cannon, no doubt, but I have to believe he’s got a shot for a Top 10 finish this week because he’s finished in the Top 10 in 2 out of the last 4 tournaments. Granted he missed the cut in the other two, but still…

Jim Furyk +200 – - Fury’s finished in the Top 10 in 2 out of the last 4 tournaments making him a decent golf bet to finish in the Top 10 at The Barclays this week.
