The Young Guns in Memphis – Nuggets vs. Grizzlies
March 18, 2009
The Denver Nuggets travel to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies in a game where Denver will be a big road favorite. The Nuggets haven’t had the best season imaginable but they have done okay up to this point. They are 43 and 25 straight-up which means they will make the NBA Playoffs. Against the spread, Denver does have a winning record of 36-31-1. Their record ATS on the road is 17 and 17.
Memphis just hasn’t been able to build a contender since entering the league some years ago. The Grizzlies always seem to have a talented player or two, this time it’s Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo, but they never get anywhere with those talented players. The Grizzlies have a horrible 17 and 49 record straight-up. Their record ATS is 28-37-1. Their record against the spread at home is 14-19-1.
Here is the BetOnline online sportsbook betting line for this game.
Denver Nuggets -6 ½ -110 -290 O 198 ½ -110
Memphis Grizzlies +6 ½ -110 +240 U 198 ½ -110
Here are a few online wagering trends for this game.
The Denver Nuggets are 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games on the road.
The Denver Nuggets are 4 and 1 against the spread in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The Memphis Grizzlies are 6 and 2 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
The Memphis Grizzlies are 7 and 1 against the spread in their last 8 games as the underdog.
What a difficult game to handicap! Both Denver and Memphis have pros and cons in regards to covering the spread. Denver can absolutely dominate at times, but they can also play like horrible at times.
The Nuggets are coming off of three straight victories. Two of those were victories against the spread. They could be considered hot which is why they are 6 ½ point favorites on the road.
The Grizzlies just lost by 11 points to Portland at home as 6 point underdogs, but Memphis has been hot as well going 7 and 3 ATS in their last 10 games.
This game will come down to whether or not Denver can keep their streak going. If Denver relaxes for a moment, I see where the Grizzlies could take advantage and actually win this game outright.
But I don’t have enough guts to lay it on the money line. Instead, I’ll take Memphis and the points. Memphis has talent and Denver will be trying for a fourth straight victory. I like Denver to “bounce” some in this game.
I’ll bet Memphis to beat the +6 ½ points in the sportsbook.
