The Washington Huskies Upset USC!!!
September 19, 2009
OH MY GOD!!!!
The Washington Huskies have done the unthinkable. Going in as 19 point underdogs, they’ve just beaten the 3rd ranked team in the country, University of Southern California, 16-13.
I don’t know who to be more impressed with, the UW quarterback Jake Locker, their defense or the kicker Erik Folk. Locker was a rock back there, even when he was flushed out of the pocket he kept the play alive and made a HUGE throw late in the fourth to set up the winning filed goal. The D kept USC in check all day and made USC look very ordinary.
But since they usually never get the credit, have to give the game ball to Folk, as he not only drilled the game winner, he hit a 46-yard field with 9:53 remaining in regulation. Jordan Congdon tied it at 13-13 for USC with a 25-yard boot but Folk finished the job with a 22-yard chip shot with four seconds left, as the Huskies swarmed the ensuing kick return to set off a wild celebration.
This is by far the most impressive upset of the early college football season and another Pac-10 loss for USC early in the season that will make it that much more difficult for them to reach a national championship.
This vaults Washington into the picture as they have looked good all year and this win legitimizes a Cinderella Husky team in a hurry. A game to circle on your calendar if you’re a Washington fan, Notre Dame two weeks from now.
