The Rose and The Answer – Bulls and Pistons from Chicago
February 10, 2009
The Detroit Pistons, fresh off of a Sunday loss to Shaq and the Phoenix Suns, travel to Chicago to take on the Bulls. Detroit has been a sloppy team this season. Their straight-up record of 27 and 22 pales in comparison to what they used to do straight-up when a player named Chauncey Billups used to pass the rock for them. Their record against the sportsbook line is only 20 and 29. Their record against the spread on the road is 13 and 10. So, there is a sliver of hope in their game against the Bulls on Tuesday night.
Chicago isn’t much better than Detroit. Straight-up they are worse at 22 and 29 but their ATS record is slightly better at 24-26-21. But, like the Detroit Pistons at home, the Bulls flounder against their own fans going 10 and 13 against the spread.
Here are the BetOnline sportsbook betting odds for this game.
Detroit Pistons +2 ½ -110 O 190 -110
Chicago Bulls -2 ½ -110 U 190 -110
Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good bet.
The Detroit Pistons are 1 and 4 against the spread in their last 5 games overall.
The Detroit Pistons are 14 and 5 against the spread in the last 19 meetings between these two teams in Chicago.
The Chicago Bulls are 6-0-1 against the spread in their last 7 games overall.
The Chicago Bulls are 4-0-1 against the spread following an ATS win.
Detroit is a different team with Allen Iverson running the point. They lose some of their defensive ability. What Iverson is supposed to make that up with, I thought, was his offensive prowess.
But the Pistons have reined Iverson in. He’s only averaging 18 points a game. Iverson’s assists totals are up, but what’s the point of having Iverson on your team if you’re not going to demand 24 to 30 points a night out of him?
You might as well have kept the other guy who used to put up the same amount of points but got you more assists, rebounds, steals and was better at rotating to the double-team.
Chicago has been on a massive roll. They are coming off of a 7 game road trip. Out of those 7 games they lost 3 straight-up but went 6-0-1 against the spread. On the road!
The problem is that they might have a let down returning home. But I don’t think it will be enough of a let down to lose to the Pistons.
I’ll be making a bet on the Chicago Bulls to cover the -2 point spread.
