The Memorial Tournament Matchups – Golf’s Best Bet

June 3, 2009

Tee-off:  6/4/2009

The Memorial this week with Tiger Woods facing off against Paul Casey and Kenny Perry should be interesting for BetOnline online sportsbook fans in the matchup department.

Phil “Lefty” Mickelson returns next week in the St. Jude’s Classic and gamblers will get a chance to bet for or against Lefty in a few matchups in that one.

But for now, it’s all about Woods, Casey, Perry and a host of other terrific golfers in The Memorial.

Let’s take a look at the best matchup wagers in The Memorial this week.

Golf:  The Memorial Matchups

  1. Paul Casey +220 vs. Tiger Woods -300 – - Usually, I’d have to put money on Casey in this matchup as he has been very good in most of the tournaments he’s played in this year, but Tiger has 5 top ten finishes out of 6 starts this year and took a few weeks off after the TPC Sawgrass to prepare for the U.S. Open.  This is Tiger’s prep and Tiger always does well in his preps.

    Pick:  Tiger Woods at -300

  1. Vijay Singh -120 vs. Jim Furyk -110 – - Both Furyk and Singh have been playing very well lately, but Furyk hasn’t been able to close the deal on any tournament yet this year.  Singh hasn’t either, but Singh proved last year that when he gets hot, he usually stays hot.  The 2008 FedEx Cup Champion should be able to beat Furyk in this matchup.

    Pick:
      Vijay Singh at -120

  1. K.J. Choi -110 vs. Kevin Na -120 – - Na should win this matchup easily.  Then again, he does have the tendency to really play awful once things don’t start out well for him.  But if Na can get off to a hot start, then he beats Choi in this.  Kevin Na has the ability to finish in the top ten while Choi finishing in the top ten would be a huge surprise.

    Pick:
      Kevin Na at -12

  1. Zach Johnson -120 vs. Sean O’Hair -110 – - Johnson is ranked #1 on the money list but only has 2 top tens out of his last 6 starts.  O’Hair has finished in the top ten in 3 out of his last 5 tournaments.  I like O’Hair.

    Pick:
      Sean O’Hair at -110

  1. Jim Furyk -110 vs. Kenny Perry -120 – - This week Perry finally gets over the Masters’ debacle and finishes in the top five, not just the top ten, but the top five.  Perry has to get his game correct before tackling Bethpage Black and the U.S. Open in two weeks.  How does he do that?  Beating Furyk in this matchup would be a start.

    Pick:
      Kenny Perry at -120

  1. Geoff Ogilvy -130 vs. Ian Poulter Ev – -  Ogilvy should be able to play a much stronger game after suffering through some bad tournaments because the Muirfield Village course is perfect for his terrific fairway hitting.  But Poulter has been playing well and might be on an upswing while Ogilvy has been on a definite downswing lately.  I’m going with Poulter as a bit of an upset in this matchup.

    Pick:
      Ian Poulter at Ev
