The G-Men will beat the World Series odds and go up 2-0 on Thursday

October 29, 2010

The World Series odds for Game 2 of the Fall Classic between the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers have been posted at BetOnline Sportsbook, and we’re ready to analyze which side you should be on for Thursday night’s crucial encounter.

On Wednesday, everyone thought that the bats were going to be held in check, but we beat the World Series odds in the wild 11-7 win for the G-Men. It was a great day for Freddy Sanchez, who had four hits and three RBIs, while Juan Uribe blew the game open in the fifth with a three run blast.

Cliff Lee looked very beatable for the Rangers in arguably his worst start with the team. He allowed seven runs, six of which were earned in just 4.2 innings. Tim Lincecum wasn’t much better, allowing four runs in 5.2 innings of work, but his offense picked a great time to wake up.

The World Series odds immediately were stacked against Texas when it committed four errors, something that must be fixed to win Game 2 tonight.

MLB Odds

Texas Rangers (CJ Wilson – L) +110 +1.5 -225
San Francisco Giants (Matt Cain – R) -120 -1.5 +185
Over/Under 7 o-105 7 u-115

CJ Wilson came out of the blocks like a house of fire against the Tampa Bay Rays in these playoffs, pitching 6.1 scoreless innings. However, since that point, he has been so-so at best, allowing eight earned runs in just 12 frames.

If Wilson is beating the World Series odds on Thursday night, he is going to need to settle down and throw more strikes. A 6/6 K/BB ratio like he had in the ALCS against the New York Yankees absolutely will not cut it.

For manager Bruce Bochy, he has to love the fact that he can take a 2-0 lead and stack the World Series odds heavily in his favor with a man on the mound that has yet to give up a run in this postseason.

Matt Cain is the man we are talking about, and he has simply been awesome in these playoffs. He was dropped to No. 3 in the rotation in the NLCS against the Philadelphia Phillies, but responded nicely by allowing just two hits and no runs in seven innings.

Cain has only faced the Rangers once in his career, and took a no decision allowing just one run in eight innings last season.

MLB Insider Tip: The World Series odds are stacked against the Rangers here, as they have actually never won a game here at Candlestick Park (0-10).

Texas has to be shell shocked right now, and Wilson is certainly going in the wrong direction, not the right one. Cain has been too tough to handle in these playoffs, and as long as the San Fran bullpen doesn’t have another meltdown, the Giants should be the team to beat on Thursday as well.

The G-Men will beat the World Series odds and go up 2-0 on Thursday.

My MLB Predictions: San Francisco Giants (Cain)
