The Furious 2010 Heisman Betting Watch – Newton Still On Top
November 9, 2010
1. Cameron Newton (QB – Auburn Tigers)
Newton’s big day against Chattanooga is exactly why Kellen Moore continues to fall in the Heisman betting watch. Against crap infested teams, a star player should post huge numbers for his Heisman campaign and Newton did not let anyone down in that department.
With 317 passing yards, 5 total touchdowns and no interceptions, Newton continues to be the pinnacle of this race. It remains his to lose.

Next Game: Georgia vs. Auburn -9.5
2. LaMichael James (RB – Oregon Ducks)
The Washington Huskies posed no threat to the Oregon Ducks, who walloped them 53-to-16 as James led the team with 121 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns.
He’s frankly just waiting for Cameron Newton to have a couple bad games, but at this rate that’s the only thing that will give James the Heisman. The sophomore, however, will have plenty of time to get one of his own.
Next Game: Oregon -20.5 vs. California
3. Justin Blackmon (WR – Oklahoma State Cowboys)
Returning from a suspension resulting from an idiotic DUI did nothing to slow down Blackmon who exploded for 173-yards receiving and 2 touchdowns in a 55-28 blowout of Baylor.
Blackmon is the most difficult player to cover in college football right now. He wins in single coverage nearly every time, and can penetrate double coverage just as effectively.
If this is the year of the receiver in the Heisman betting watch, Blackmon is hands down the only candidate worthy of winning the award (Jerry Rice was, after all, just named the “best player in NFL history” by the NFL Network).
Next Game: Oklahoma State -6.5 vs. Texas
4. Andrew Luck (QB – Stanford Cardinals)
From a pure pocket passer standpoint, Luck is likely the best quarterback in the entire country. He picked Arizona apart for 23-of-32 completions with 293-yards passing and a pair of touchdowns.
His Cardinals are 8-1 SU and gaining steam in the BCS Standings, so Luck is definitely worth tracking as an upstart in the Heisman betting watch.
Next Game: Stanford -7.0 vs. Arizona State
5. Kellen Moore (QB – Boise State Broncos)
Moore finally had the big game I’ve been waiting for him to have, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Moore posted 507 passing yards and 3 touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions while outdueling Bryant Moniz of Hawaii.
Moore’s Heisman betting watch status is getting derailed because plenty of teams are jumping over Boise State in the BCS and I have a feeling Moore is starting to be overlooked in the process as well.
Next Game: Boise State -33.0 vs. Idaho
Biggest Loser – Robert Griffin III (QB – Baylor Bears)
The multi-talented quarterback for the Baylor Bears takes a stern nose dive in the Heisman betting watch because of a lackluster game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Griffin was completely held out of the endzone while throwing for 267-yards and rushing for just 15-yards on the ground. This was a big statement game for Griffin and Baylor, and the only statement they made was that they’re not worthy.
Next Game: Texas A&M -3.0 vs. Baylor
Biggest Riser – Andy Dalton (QB – TCU Horned Frogs)
Part of what makes TCU great is their defense, but you can’t ignore the sheer numbers generated by quarterback Andy Dalton.
With 355 passing yards and 3 touchdowns, followed by zero picks, Dalton led the Horned Frogs in a 47-7 whooping of Utah to bolster their BCS stock and improve his Heisman betting chances.
Dalton has 2,242 passing yards, 24 total touchdowns (19 passing, 5 rushing) and just 5 picks this season.
Those are great numbers and as long as TCU stays near the top of the standings, Dalton has a chance to get at least an invite to New York city. He is a very cagey upset pick in the Heisman betting watch so keep your eyes glued to him for now.
Next Game: San Diego State vs. TCU -27.0
