Texas A&M vs Arkansas – Latest College Football Lines

October 9, 2010

The Texas A&M Aggies and the #13 Arkansas Razorbacks will meet at Cowboy Stadium this Saturday in an SEC clash. Both teams are 3-1 with a 2-2 record against the spread.

The latest college football lines favor the Razorbacks but the Aggies have a chance to upset the nationally ranked Razorbacks in this game.

The college football odds makers have set the Arkansas Razorbacks as the -5-point favorites. A straight up bet on the underdog Aggies will pay bettors +190 on the moneyline. The game total is set at 61½ points.

Arkansas opened the season with three straight wins but dropped a close 24-20 game to the #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. Despite the loss, they are the only team that has presented a challenge to the defending National Champions.

The Razorback offense revolves around junior starting quarterback Ryan Mallett. Mallet is completing 68.8% of his passes for 1438 yards, 10 touchdowns and 5 interceptions this season. He’s spreading the ball around with Joe Adams leading the team with 389 yards and three other receivers all catching more than 200 yards.

The Razorback’s passing attack ranks 2nd in the nation, averaging 365 yards a game.

The Razorbacks are a pass first second and third team. Their leading rusher Broderick Green is averaging just 33.5 yards a game.

Defensively, Arkansas let Alabama run for 227 yards in their last game but they come up with two big interceptions that helped the keep to score within the pointspread. Despite the loss, it was a respectable performance against the Crimson Tide.

The Aggies have a talented quarterback of their own in Jerrod Johnson. Johnson is completing 60.8% of his passes for 1274 yards and 12 touchdowns. The only concern with Johnson is that he’s thrown eight interceptions but that could have been early season rust as they all came in the first two games.

Johnson’s top target Jeff Fuller has caught 26 passes for 349 yards and five touchdowns.

Running back Christine Michael is averaging 107 rushing yards a game.

The Aggies are strong against the run as they rank third nationally, allowing just 68.5 yards a game. However, against the pass they are allowing 211 yards a game to opposing quarterbacks.

They have giving up progressively more points a game as the opposition gets tougher and with the Razorbacks being the toughest opponent on the schedule so far, the Aggies could give up a boatload of points Saturday.

If you like passing, you will love this matchup. I like what the Razorbacks defense did against the Crimson Tide and if they can pressure Johnson, they should be able to cover the -5-point spread. Before you bet, always check the latest college football lines for movement but you should feel confident backing the Razorbacks against the spread.
