TCU Won’t Be One of the Best NCAAF Picks Against the Spread

September 11, 2010

The #7 TCU Horned Frogs won’t be one of the best NCAAF picks against the spread this Saturday.  They just won’t.  Yes, even though they almost covered the spread against the Oregon State Beavers last weekend, they won’t be a great bet to cover the spread against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles this Saturday.

Why?  Oh, it has nothing to do with the fact that TCU is favored by too many points against Tennessee Tech.  The Horned Frogs aren’t a good bet to cover ATS this Saturday because a betting line won’t be established for their game against the Golden Eagles.

At least, I’m pretty sure it won’t.  That doesn’t mean that sports gamblers shouldn’t watch TCU against Tennessee Tech this Saturday.  Any info that football handicappers can glean from the game will help them determine how well TCU is going to do against the spread in future games.

Since sports gamblers won’t be able to bet on this game, is there anything that they should look for in regards to TCU?

Yes, there is.  The TCU Horned Frogs almost lost their chance at the BCS National Championship this past Saturday against the Oregon State Beavers.  Although TCU ended up winning the game 31 to 20, some football fans believe that TCU got lucky.

The Horned Frogs had to use their offense in order to beat Oregon State and that’s not really a good thing.  TCU racked up 453 yards against the Beavers.  They should get at least that against Tennessee Tech, but that’s not what football handicappers should pay attention to in this game.

What football handicappers should look for is how well TCU’s defense defends against a horrible Tennessee Tech offense.  Tennessee Tech lost 44 to 3 against Arkansas last week.  Now, they face what’s supposed to be a better team in TCU.

TCU’s defense gave up 255 yards to Oregon State and only 20 points and yes, that’s not bad, but they can do better.  Arkansas allowed Tennessee Tech to rack up 187 total yards.  Most of those yards came through the air where Tennessee Tech averaged 15.4 yards per pass completed.  Granted, they only completed 7 passes but that’s still a nice average.

TCU’s defense needs to be better than what Arkansas did.  Football handicappers need to see if the Horned Frogs can keep the Golden Eagles to less than 10 first downs and less than 175 total yards.  If TCU’s D can do that, then based on what their offense showed me last weekend, they could end up being one of the best NCAAF picks against the spread moving forward this season.
