Like the last two meetings in this series, it’s tough to envision BYU having much success on offense. TCU has covered easily as a college football pick winner the past two season’s and BYU’s offense this season is the worst Cougars edition in nearly a decade. BYU is averaging under 17 points per game and only 4.5 yards per play. Now they travel after a very fortunate, replay official aided win over San Diego State to take on one of the top defensive teams in the nation.

TCU allows just 10 points per game and 230 yards per contest – the best in the nation. The Horned Frogs have posted back to back shutouts and their dominating defense allows just 4.2 yards per play. In evaluating this college football pick, it’s tough to see BYU reaching 200 yards offense, and scoring 10 points may well be a challenge as freshman quarterback Jake Heaps is completing just 52 percent of his passes and less than 5.0 yards per pass attempt. TCU boasts the leagues top pass defense allowing just 134 yards per game along with the top run defense allowing 96 yards per game.

TCU is often a solid college football pick because it combines a dominating defense with a strong, balanced offensive attack. The Horned Frogs average over 200 yards running and passing. In this match-up, they have a very experienced offense with a powerful offensive line opening holes for a running game averaging 278 yards per game and 5.9 yards per rush. Running back Ed Wesley is averaging over 100 yards per game rushing with a league-best 7.0 yards per rush. Senior quarterback Andy Dalton is very efficient in the passing game while completing 66 percent of his passes and better than 8.5 yards per pass attempt.

TCU keeps the chains moving with a better than 53 percent conversion rate on third down while the Cougars defense has trouble getting off the field allowing 48 percent conversions. BYU has allowed at least 31 points in their three road games and the Cougars run defense is getting blown up at the point of attack allowing 225 rushing yards per game at 5.1 yards per rush. Little to like with BYU as a college football pick this week even in their biggest underdog role in 30 years.

NCAA Insider Tip: TCU has won 16 straight home games by an average score of 46-10. TCU is 8-2 ATS its L/10 games against teams with a losing record. In six games this season, opponents have only been in the red zone seven times against TCU and scored just three touchdowns.

Big betting favorites that can run up the score and provide style points to the pollsters are a popular college football pick to many public bettors. That’s exactly the scenario TCU finds itself in today; look for it to get the job done!
