MLB Betting – MLB’s Best ‘Over’ Teams
As the sports betting season for Major League Baseball heads towards its second month of the season, BetOnline Sportsbook presents a list of the hottest teams that you should be looking at the next time you go to wager on the ‘over’ in a baseball game…
(Rank) (Team) (O/U record) (O/U Record L/5)
1: Colorado Rockies (12-6-2) (4-1 in L/5) Someone turn the humidor back on! Coors Field is beginning to turn into a house of horrors for pitchers once again. Over the L/5 days, the Rocks have pounded out a whopping 37 runs. Their pitching hasn’t been stellar either, as the staff has allowed 26 runs. Even with five double digit ‘totals’ in its L/5, Colorado has still pushed four of the five past the number. The offense ranks 5th in the majors at 5.40 runs per game, while the pitching staff ranks 25th with an ERA of 5.51. Four players (Brad Hawpe, Todd Helton, Ryan Spilborghs, and Seth Smith) are all batting over .300 still, while five Rockies have already hit the double digit mark in RBIs on the season. Parlay that offensive prowess with the facts that the starting staff is nothing special and the bullpen ranks 24th in the majors (5.50 ERA), and you’ve got the perfect equation for a ton of runs hitting the board on a nightly basis.
2: Pittsburgh Pirates (11-9-1) (4-1 in L/5) The Pirates may have the best team ERA in baseball (3.41), but it’s not stopping their bats from scoring a ton of runs! Even though yesterday afternoon’s game was a 1-0 pitcher’s duel, ‘over’ bettors have still won four out of five Bucs’ games. Pittsburgh is averaging 5.6 runs per game in spite of the fact that it was shutout last night, while it is giving up 4.2 runs per game in that same stretch. Keep an eye on 3B Andy LaRoche, who has reached base safely in 11 of his L/12 games, and is batting .341 with a .423 OBP.
3: San Diego Padres (11-8-1) (4-1 in L/5) When your most recent two series are against the two teams in front of you on this list, it’s easy to be on the list yourself. The oddsmakers have been clueless setting Padres totals this season. Until this recent three-game road trip to Colorado, it feels as though every San Diego over/under is set at no more than eight. Even though their offense is averaging just 4.33 runs per game, the fact that the Padres’ pitching staff ranks 22nd in ERA (4.82) and only has one starter with a sub-4.50 ERA (Cla Meredith, 3.86) has consistently pushed games past the number. Look for that to continue until the oddsmakers adjust and start throwing 8.5’s, 9’s, and 9.5’s up on the board. 1B Adrian Gonzalez sits atop the National League home run standings with nine. He’s riding an 11-game hitting streak, and has popped four homers and driven in eight runs in his L/5 games.
And the rest…
4: Chicago Cubs (11-7-2) (4-1 in L/5)
5: Arizona Diamondbacks (10-10-1) (3-1-1 in L/5)
