Take The San Diego State Aztecs To Cover The College Football Point Spread

September 25, 2010

Although they are 3-0 this year against the college football point spread, the San Diego State Aztecs believe they should be undefeated straight up overall. But after a devastating loss last weekend at Missouri, can the Aztecs bounce back with a frisky Utah State team coming to town Saturday?

Last weekend, head coach Brady Hoke had a chance at a signature win at San Diego State, as his Aztecs took a 24-20 lead into the closing minutes against Missouri. They couldn’t hold on late however, as a T.J. Moe 68 yard touchdown catch with under a minute to go sealed the win and shocked the Aztecs. The entire team will need to have short a memory though, as they welcome Utah State to town.

Whether they cover the college football point spread or not this weekend, the one thing we know about San Diego State is that they can move the ball on offense against everyone. They rank in the top 25 in college football in total offense (ninth), scoring offense (22nd), rushing offense (17th) and passing offense (23rd) making them one of the most balanced teams in the game. Quarterback Ryan Lindley has thrown for over 300 yards in two of the Aztecs three games, while Ronnie Hillman is an explosive running back that already has seven touchdowns on the year.

As for Utah State, they are no slouches themselves, and believe they have what it takes to pull the upset in Saturday’s college football point spread.

For that to happen, they’ll need another strong effort from quarterback, Diondre Borel.

Few teams in college football rely on their signal caller as much as the Aggies do Borel, as the senior is obviously their best passer, but also a running threat as well. So far this year, he’s passed for over 700 yards and five touchdowns, and also had his best rushing effort of 2010 last Saturday, going for 66 yards and his first rushing score of the season.

However as much as Borel leads this offense, the defense is still looking for playmakers. Because of it, take San Diego State this weekend.

Utah State has played two quality opponents this season, Oklahoma in Week 1 and Fresno State last weekend, and lost both games because they couldn’t get stops in the defensive end. They allowed an average of 36 points in those two games, and let Fresno run for 230 yards a week ago. This San Diego State offense can put up points in a hurry, and as good as Borel and the Aggies are, they won’t be able to keep up.

The college football point spread is out, and the only team to take this Saturday is San Diego State, giving 7 ½ points at home!

The Pick: San Diego State -7 ½
