Superbowl Pick: What are my options?

February 7, 2010 marks the end of yet another exciting NFL season. It also means that it is superbowl pick time. The Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints square off in one of the most anticipated Superbowl games in recent history.

There is not much to differentiate between the two participants in Superbowl 44, making the art of the superbowl pick quite difficult. Both teams play indoors, free from the elements (Miami offers the same type of environment), both teams boast superb Offenses led by veteran Quarterbacks, and both have Defenses that seem to do just enough to win.

The Indianapolis Colts have one thing that the New Orleans Saints could have only dreamed of before this season – Superbowl experience. If you make your superbowl pick based on this intangible, the Colts are your team. But Indianapolis has proven suspect on Defense and the potential absence of Dwight Freeney, makes the Indy pass rush even more vulnerable against the Drew Brees magic that has been so evident all year.

The New Orleans Saints have their own intangible that sets them apart from the Indianapolis Colts, one that cannot be overlooked when making a superbowl pick – a running game. Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush and Mike Bell have all been effective this year and will look to dominate a middle of the pack Indianapolis rush Defense on Sunday afternoon. The running game will keep the Colts guessing, limit the Colts pass rush, and even gain a few yards for their team.

It goes without saying that the team that is able to control the clock and keep the opposing Offense off the field will have the advantage. That advantage belongs to the New Orleans Saints.
