Super Bowl Sunday – Bet on College Basketball Before Super Bowl XLV Kicks Off

February 7, 2011

Sports betting fans should get some wagers down in the college basketball sports book before the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers kick off in Super Bowl XLV at roughly 6:30 pm EST.

All three college hoops games involving ranked teams tip-off before 2:00 pm EST on Sunday.

So, there’s plenty of time for hoops handicappers to get some action in before concentrating on the Lombardi Trophy game.

Feb. 6th– NCAA BB Games

Rutgers Scarlet Knights (12-10) at #8 Notre Dame Irish (18-4)

Where: Purcell Pavilion, South Bend, Indiana

When: 12:00 pm EST

Fair Basketball Odds: Rutgers +12 ½

Analysis: Notre Dame has been really impressive lately. The Irish is 4 and 0 straight up and versus the online college basketball odds in the sports book in their last 4. The Irish has beaten Cincinnati, Marquette, Pitt and DePaul straight up in their last 4. Rutgers shouldn’t be an issue for Notre Dame when it comes to the moneyline odds, but I believe that ND gets over bet versus the spread in this spot. Rutgers has lost 3 games in a row straight up, but they’re 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games. If the point spread reaches a dozen, like I believe it will, I have no choice but to back the Scarlet Knights in this game.

Michigan State Wolverines (13-9) at #18 Wisconsin Badgers (16-5)

Where: Kohl Center, Madison, Wisconsin

When: 1:00 pm EST

Fair Basketball Odds: Michigan State +5 ½

Analysis: Sparty is teetering on the brink of not even receiving a bid to the NCAA Tournament in March. Coach Tom Izzo probably never dreamed of that happening. In any case, MSU beat Wisconsin, 64 to 61 in overtime, in January. MSU has gone 1 and 4 straight up in their last 5. They’ve gone a horrendous 2 and 8 against the college basketball odds in the sports book in their last 10, but I can’t help but think that Izzo’s going to have his team ready to make their usual mid to late season run. I’ve got to take a shot on Sparty turning it around on Sunday and keeping it close versus the Badgers.

#1 Ohio State Buckeyes (23-0) at #19 Minnesota Golden Gophers (16-6)

Where: Williams Arena, Minneapolis, Minnesota

When: 2:00 pm EST

Fair Basketball Odds: Minnesota moneyline

Analysis: It’s high time that the Ohio State Buckeyes lost a game. No team goes undefeated in college basketball and Ohio State plays in one of the toughest conferences in college hoops. The Buckeyes are a bad 6 and 7 versus the college basketball spread in their home games this season. They’ve gone 0 and 2 against the spread in their last 2 games and almost lost on the moneyline odds to Northwestern on Jan. 29th in a 58 to 57 victory. Minnesota lost 64 to 67 to Ohio State as recently as Jan. 9th. Along with the Pittsburgh Steelers upsetting the Green Bay Packers straight up at +120, this is the other awesome bet on the moneyline odds on Feb. 6th.
