Suns Heating Up – Phoenix at Philadelphia

February 9, 2009

The Phoenix Suns, (28-21 SU, 17-29-2 ATS, 27-21 O/U) have won two consecutive games in the BetOnline Sportsbook and three of its last four overall.

The Philadelphia 76ers, (25-24 SU, 24-23-2 ATS, 20-27-2 O/U) have also won two straight games coming into tonight’s matchup.

One team’s modest winning streak will come to a screeching halt when the two teams meet at the Wachovia Center in Philly tonight.

The Suns beat the Detroit 107-97 to easily cover the spread as a 1-point road underdog on Sunday while the combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (198.5).

Veteran swingman Jason Richardson scored 21 points to lead Phoenix while veteran center Shaquille O’Neal added 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The 76ers came from behind to defeat the Miami Heat 94-84 on Saturday and cover the spread as 3.5-point home favorites while the combined score fell UNDER the posted O/U total of 193.

Rookie center Marreese Speights had 15 points with six rebounds while veteran point guard Andre Miller added 15 points in the win.

Philadelphia 76ers -3 -110

Over 210 -110

Under 210 -110

Analysis: While I am impressed with the Philadelphia 76ers’ play the last two games, I’m starting to get the feeling that the Suns, as dysfunctional as they may be, are starting to get their act together as witnessed by their last two wins, both convincing 10-point wins.

While I don’t think the Suns have what it takes to topple the league’s elite teams as they still haven’t developed a ‘real identity’ I do like them to handle Philly tonight as they are the older, more experienced – and more talented ballclub in this contest.

Take the Suns to make it three straight and two consecutive road wins.
