Sprint Cup Betting – Edwards and Biffle Feel Right at Home
January 12, 2011
Sprint Cup bettors understand very clearly that Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle both feel very much at home at Homestead-Miami Speedway, which plays host to the season-ending Ford 400 (Sunday, 1 PM ET on ESPN). They possess four wins and eight top-tens between them there. And both of them have been driving well, even if they don’t have a chance to win the Sprint Cup title. Edwards and Biffle are matched up in a special Sprint Cup betting prop to see who is going to qualify higher this week. In that proposition, Edwards is the -120 favorite, with Biffle at -110.

Edwards comes into this race as someone who probably offers some value in the odds, as he is priced at +750 in Sprint Cup betting to win. He emerged victorious in last week’s Kobalt Tools 500, where he had also won the pole. In that race he took a gamble, stretching his fuel out and sweating out some anxious moments. On the season, he’s been pretty strong when it comes to qualifying; especially in the latter half. In his last 14 races, he had started in the top ten no less than ten times, and has captured three poles. He had one stretch earlier this year when he finished in the top ten on six straight occasions, and now he has had four top tens during the nine races in the Chase for the Cup.
Edwards probably has the best background of any of these drivers when it comes to competing at Homestead, and that is something Sprint Cup bettors need to be aware of. He has an average finish of 6.5, which is great, and he also has a driver rating at this venue that is better than any other driver in the field. He won the Homestead race in 2008, and did it from a starting position of fourth. He has also won the pole (in 2005). In six races at this track, he has finished in the top ten five times, and it was the last five times he’s been there.
Greg Biffle has been no slouch at Homestead either. In fact, I guess you can argue that he is even more accomplished in this layout than Edwards. He won three straight times there – 2004, 2005 and 2006 – and he has also been a top ten qualifier on four occasions. At +800 in the Sprint Cup betting odds for this race, he may be a good buy, in fact. The overall stats may not be as good as Edwards, and that’s because Biffle hasn’t done all that well in his last three races in Homestead, finishing 13th, 18th and 14th. His driver rating there is 99.0, which is fifth best in this field.
Biffle won at Pocono earlier this year, and in the Chase he captured the Price Chopper 400 at Kansas. he’s done some of his best running in the Chase for the Cup, registering four top-five finishes in the last eight events. NASCAR bettors have seen him do very well in qualifying as well. He hasn’t won any poles, but he has started among the top seven in six of the last eight NASCAR races. As the underdog, we’ll take price on Biffle, priced at -110 in the Sprint Cup netting odds for this proposition.
