USC Trojans vs. Washington State Cougars

Washington State Cougars (+22) -110

The only man that you clearly cannot question whether his heart is in the right place or not this year for the Trojans is Matt Barkley. It’s a sin that Barkley won’t even be considered for the Heisman Trophy unless he puts up truly remarkable numbers, because so far this year, he has been a rock for head coach Lane Kiffin.

Barkley is completing 65.5 percent of his passes in this, his sophomore year, and he has thrown for 651 yards and nine scores against just two picks.

Marc Tyler leads this team in rushing with 254 yards, and he along with Allen Bradford have helped lead USC to the 34th ranked ground attack in the country at 196.3 yards per game.

The questions comes on defense for the Men of Troy, as they have only beaten the sportsbook odds once this year due to the fact that they rank only 70th in the nation in scoring defense at 23.7 points per game.

The Cougs are absolutely a train wreck defensively as well, but that’s nothing new for a team that historically struggles on ‘D’. This unit is allowing 457.0 yards and 40.7 points per game this year, both numbers of which leave Wazzou in the bottom 15 in the nation.

Offensively, things are improving, which is why the Cougs beat the sportsbook lines last week against the SMU Mustangs. Jeff Tuel is leading the nation’s 46th ranked passing attack at 233.3 yards per game. He has thrown for an even 700 yards with five scores against just one pick for the year.

Watch for Marquess Wilson to do some damage to the USC secondary. He has only caught 13 balls this year, but he has made the most out of them, going for 281 yards and a pair of TDs.

NCAA Football Insider Tip: The ‘over’ has beaten the sportsbook in ten of the L/13 meetings of these two conference foes.

USC’s defense hasn’t shown us much this year, and neither has Wazzou’s. If the Trojans want to score 60 in this game, they will. If they want to screw around, Washington State could score 30. Either way, we know that the Men of Troy aren’t going to totally fall asleep at the wheel and lose outright unless all heck breaks loose.

To beat your sportsbook, go with the ‘over’ in this Pac 10 battle on Saturday!
