Oklahoma (7-2) suffered a surprising loss last week at Texas A&M, as the Sooners were beaten 33-19 as a road favorite. Now back home, look for the Sooners to trounce Texas Tech and get the money at the sportsbook. Oklahoma is 5-0 at home this season and have outscored the opposition by a combined 200-75 on this field; an average score of 40-15.
The Sooners should be plenty motivated in this spot, as Oklahoma was embarrassed last year at Texas Tech 41-13 as a touchdown road favorite at the sportsbook. The match-ups and motivation point to a Sooners steamrolling victory Saturday. Oklahoma is averaging 322 passing yards per game to rank #2 in the Big 12. Going against the weak Texas Tech pass defense that allows 292 yards per game to rank last in the Big 12 and #118 in the nation should set up well for big plays and scoring by the Sooners.
Oklahoma’s quarterback Landry Jones passed 59 times last week for 290 yards. He’s sure to have the ball in the air often again this week, and note that Oklahoma’s last two wins on their home field were by the scores of 43-10 and 52-0 over Colorado and Iowa State; two teams in similar class to Texas Tech this season. The sportsbook may not be able to set this line high enough for the expected unrelenting Oklahoma attack that will hold nothing back in revenge mode playing in their final home game of the season.
The last time Texas Tech visited Norman to play Oklahoma it was a game to remember for the Sooners and their supportive fans. Texas Tech entered as the #2 team in the nation and left a beaten and battered bunch as the Sooners crushed the Red Raiders 65-21 to win big at the sportsbook. Texas Tech first year coach Tommy Tuberville is trying to balance the spread offense with a running game and it’s not working, as Tech runs for just 125 yards per game. Despite some solid passing yards from the spread, Texas Tech is averaging less than 6.5 yards per pass play and will face a solid Sooners secondary that can limit quarterback Taylor Potts and force the Red Raiders to play from behind the entire day.
NCAA Insider Tip: Oklahoma is 16-7 off a loss under head coach Bob Stoops and the Sooners are at their best at home going 19-8 ATS the past 4+ years. If that doesn’t make for a solid enough case to back the Sooners in this spot, the clincher no doubt is the fact that Oklahoma is 22-12 ATS in its final home game of the season (5-0 ATS L/5).
This game has blowout potential for Oklahoma and unless they commit excessive turnovers and suffer too many penalties, Oklahoma should get a big win and send Sooners bettors to the winners circle at the sportsbook with winning tickets.
My NCAA Football Predictions: Oklahoma Sooners (-14.5) -110
