Sports Book – Oregon State at UCLA: Trying for Return to Pasadena
November 6, 2010
The Sports Book Line on this Beaver-Bruin matchup would’ve been much different if it were made at the beginning of the year, but UCLA is decimated with injuries now.
UCLA is playing for pride and trying to make sure the Beavers don’t come to town and escape with a W.
Oregon State Beavers (4-3) at UCLA Bruins (3-5) – Saturday, November 6 at 7:00 ET
Rose Bowl (Stadium) (91,136) – Pasadena, California
Sports Book Line:
Oregon State Beavers (6-1 ATS) -5 (ML -200)
UCLA Bruins (2-5-1 ATS) +5 (ML +165)
Over/Under Total – 54

Oregon State has a pretty good season going this year and was on the verge of a great one when they were upset by Washington in Double overtime October 16th by a score of 35-34.
They still have tough games against Stanford and Oregon to close the season that could make this season a very successful one for the Beavers. First, they need to travel to Pasadena to handle the Bruins this week.
UCLA is getting beat down, and it shows on the injury and fatigued faces of the players. The main loss is at the QB position the last 2 years with the latest QB Kevin Prince ending his season with arthroscopic knee surgery.
Head Coach Rick Neuheisel’s damage report really is that bad. Only 9 of the original 22 starters for the Bruins have started every game. That’s a frustrating mess that’s harder than just reloading that many barrels like in the NFL.
The Bruins got demoralized by Oregon 60-13 and lost to an over-rated Arizona team 29-21 last week without their Prince. This Pass Offense is almost embarrassing now ranked 112th nationally.
This bruised, beaten and battered Bruin team doesn’t have much going right for them besides the running game. They’re grounding out almost 200.0 yards a game, but with a depleted team that’s not going to do it.
The Beavers would have what I would call a balanced and effective offense, yet it is too mild or bottled up. I almost get the feeling with Ryan Katz and Jacquizz Rodgers for a 1-2 punch; they should have over 400 yards of offense a game on average. They are actually moving that way finally.
Oregon State has yet to lose a fumble all year if you can believe that one. A tried and true fact for winners on the field or in the Sports Book is winning that turnover margin battle.
Oregon State has been trying to concentrate on improving a defense ranked around 100th in the nation. Last week Oregon State held California to 206 yards of offense which is a start but far from a Rose Bowl appearance.
You have to give the Beavers a lot of credit. They have the hardest schedule in the FBS Rankings, and they aren’t close to done yet.
The Beavers have a chance to reach the Rose Bowl this year for the first time since 1964. It’s not an easy road, but it’s sure do-able.
They have to win the rest of their games which include Stanford and Oregon to close the season. They’re 6-1 ATS this year, so they’re still obviously under-rated as well.
Oregon State beat the Bruins 26-19 last year, but this is a UCLA team bordering on crippled compared to the season start. The Beavers have too much motivation to let this game stay as close as the Sports Book line says it should be.
The Beavers are just looking too good right now, while UCLA has been on a downward slip the last 3 games.
My Sports Book Advice is to Bet Oregon State -5 over UCLA.
