Sports Betting – The College Basketball Look Ahead
February 22, 2011
After an upset filled weekend that left Sports Betting experts befuddled, we’re in for another exciting week of college hoops.
Which games do you need to keep an eye on? Let’s take a look.
Iowa State Cyclones (14-13 SU, 12-11 ATS) at No. 2 Texas Longhorns (23-4 SU, 16-6 ATS)

Of all of last weekend’s strange Sports Betting upsets, none was more surprising than the Longhorns loss at Nebraska. Texas fell 70-67 in a game that wasn’t as nearly as the final score might indicate.
Still, the Longhorns are loaded with skill and talent, and should have no problem against an Iowa State team that can’t quite keep up. The Cyclones are playing hard for coach Fred Hoiberg, it’s just not showing up in the win column. They’re 0-9 in their last nine games, and have covered the Sports Betting odds just twice over that stretch.
And honestly, we don’t think anything will change on that front Tuesday. The Longhorns will enter this one with a renewed sense of energy after Saturday’s loss, and should come in focused. Expect a big game from forward Jordan Hamilton, the favorite for Big XII Player of the Year, who is averaging 18.7 points and 7.5 rebounds.
The Horns are the Sports Betting pick to make here.
Sports Betting Pick: Texas
West Virginia Mountaineers (17-9 SU, 10-13 ATS) at No. 4 Pittsburgh Panthers (24-3 SU, 11-11 ATS)
Thursday, February 22: 9:00 p.m. ESPN
Next up we’ve got another team coming off a surprising loss, when the Pitt Panthers host the West Virginia Mountaineers. Pitt is coming off just its third loss of the year Saturday at St. John’s.
However, the Panthers should comfortably win here, thanks in large part to the return of guard Ashton Gibbs. After missing three games with a knee injury, Gibbs returned Saturday, and proved why he is one of the best there is in the Big East. He had a season-high 26 points.
Quick question: If Pittsburgh won at West Virginia 71-66 two weeks ago without Gibbs, how ugly might it get here?
We don’t know. But what we do know is that Pitt is the Sports Betting selection we’re making.
Sports Betting Pick: Pittsburgh
No. 8 Brigham Young Cougars (25-2 SU, 11-12 ATS) at San Diego State Aztecs (27-1 SU, 16-10 ATS)
Saturday, February 26: 2:00 p.m. CBS
Finally, we head out to the West Coast, where the absolute best game of the week will tip off in sunny San Diego. After handing the San Diego State Aztecs their only loss of the season, can BYU go two for two?
If it is anything like the last time these two got together, it seems feasible. If you’ll remember, guard Jimmer Fredette had one of the games of the year from anyone in college hoops, when he dropped 43 points on the Aztecs. It led to a 71-58 win for the Cougars.
But in San Diego, we expect this one to be a bit different, and that’s because of forward Kawhi Leonard. The Aztecs star was spectacular in the first meeting of these two teams, scoring 22 points and getting 15 rebounds, and that excellent performance only got lost in the shuffle only because of Fredette’s huge evening.
Well in this game, with the nation again watching, Leonard will shine.
Look for a big game from the forward, and a Sports Betting win for San Diego State!
