Sports Betting Spread – Utah vs Colorado St
October 23, 2010
The #9 ranked Utah Utes are once again faced with another ridiculous sports betting spread this Saturday.
Utah is -30 ½ point favorites in the sportsbook vs. the Colorado State Rams on Saturday, Oct. 23rd. Utah is #1 in my NCAAF ATS Rankings because they’re 5-0-1 versus the spread and are ranked in the Top 25 in at least one of the polls.
But having to cover a 30 ½ point spread against a team like Colorado State might not prove to be possible. The Rams are 4 and 3 ATS on the season. All 4 sports betting covers have occurred in their last 4 games.

Colorado State Rams +30 ½ -110 O 58 -110
Utah Utes -30 ½ -110 U 58 -110
Obviously, the sports betting trends favor the Utah Utes in this game.
- The Utah Utes are 7-0-1 ATS in their last 8 games as the favorite.
- The Utah Utes are 12 and 2 ATS versus a team with a losing record.
- The Utah Utes are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
- The Colorado State Rams are 1-5-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I expected the Utes to be a big favorite but I didn’t expect the sports betting odds makers to make them a 30 ½ point favorite against Colorado State. Why? Because the Rams have covered the spread in their last 4 games.
Colorado State isn’t a good team, they’re 2 and 5 straight up, but they are a decent team on which to make a sports betting wager to cover the spread.
The Rams have covered spreads against Idaho, TCU, Air Force and UNLV in their last 4 games. They covered a 32 ½ point spread against the Horned Frogs when losing 0 to 27.
They also covered a 24-point spread versus Air Force when losing 27 to 49. The Rams upset Idaho 36 to 34 as 8-point dogs and beat UNLV 43 to 10 as 3 ½ point favorites.
Utah is vastly superior to the Colorado State Rams. In fact, the Utes should be, in my opinion, one of the Top 5 ranked teams in the BCS Poll, but covering a 30 ½ point spread is different than covering a 22-point spread like they did in their 30 to 6 victory over Wyoming in their last.
Then again, Utah is, well, awesome. The Utes average 46 points per game and allow only 14 points per game. They have a stunning offense and a spectacular defense. Colorado averages only 18 points per game.
They give up 32 points per game on average, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. The Rams have given up points to offense that are much more inferior than Utah’s. Colorado State allowed Miami Ohio to score 31 against them. They allowed Colorado to score 34 and Air Force to score 49.
Utah figures to get at least 52 on Saturday and because of that, I have to back them against the spread even though I detest the sports betting odds.
The Utes should cover the 30 ½ points.
NCAAF Betting Pick: Utah Utes -30 ½ -110
