Sports Betting Picks – Can No. 2 Texas Cover Again?

February 16, 2011

Over the course of this college basketball season, there have been few smarter basketball Betting Picks than the Texas Longhorns. Can the No. 2 team in the country continue that trend with Oklahoma State coming to town?

Simply put, there have been few teams that college basketball bettors have enjoyed more than the Texas Longhorns this season. Coming into Wednesday’s game, the Longhorns are a blistering 15-5 against the spread, including 8-2 in their last 10. They have also won 10 games in a row straight up.

And really, to point out one key player for the Longhorns would diminish what they’ve done so far this year. Texas is an incredibly deep and skilled team, with five players averaging at least nine points per game, and eight players who are averaging at least 12 minutes played a contest.

Still, everything starts with sophomore Jordan Hamilton. The formerly mercurial forward has blossomed into a star and team player this year, in leading the Longhorns with 18.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. It doesn’t hurt that Tristan Thompson mans things down low with 12.8 points and 7.5 boards a contest, while Gary Johnson and Corey Joseph both each add 11 points a game.

With that said, it’d be remiss of us if we simply told you to take Texas in the Sports Betting Picks without first talking Oklahoma State. Because this team has some stars of their own.

While this might not be a typical Travis Ford team (only averaging 70 points per game), they do have players that can fill it up, especially forward Marshall Moses. The senior leads this team with just under 15 points per game. Keaton Page adds 14 points as well.

So what will be the ultimate in your Sports Betting Pick Wednesday? How about the Longhorns defense? Because for all the talk about Thompson, Hamilton and their scorers, it’s that end of the court where Texas is truly effective.

The Longhorns play stifling, in your face, man-to-man defense, that limits opponents to just 36.5 percent shooting from the field, and 28 percent shooting from three. Both of those numbers rank in the top five nationally. It was that defense which held Oklahoma State to just 46 points and 32 percent shooting the first time these two teams played a few weeks back.

To put it is as nicely as we can, the Texas Longhorns didn’t get to the No. 2 ranking by accident. They’ve got scorers all over the court, and play as good a defense as anyone nationally.

Is it any coincidence that we’re making them our Sports Betting Picks Lock of the Night on Wednesday?
