Kansas State: +12

Clearly the favorites in this game are the Nebraska Cornhuskers, as they enter ranked No. 7 in the country. And unlike in years past, Nebraska gets it done on both sides of the ball.

Last year the Cornhuskers defense was just about as good as anyone’s but their offense never seemed to be able to score points. This year things have changed, with the addition of freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez.

Martinez has been a revelation in Lincoln, as he enters this game not only as a solid passer, but a dangerous running threat as well. On the season, Martinez has tossed for 532 yards and two touchdowns, but it’s with his legs where he’s done the ultimate damage. Martinez leads this team with 496 yards on the ground, and eight touchdown runs. He’s rushed for at least 100 yards in four of Nebraska’s games.

Not to be outdone, Kansas State believes they have a running game to match the Cornhuskers, and be a weekend football betting pick.

Like Nebraska, Kansas State gets it done on the ground, behind the nation’s fifth leading rusher, Daniel Thomas. The senior is averaging six yards a carry, and has rushed for a staggering 628 yards in just four games. While he was held in check by Central Florida a few weeks ago, Thomas is dangerous if he gets in the open field, and has already scored six touchdowns on the year.

So with each of these two teams able to move the ball between the tackles, which squad should be one of your weekend sports betting picks? Take the Wildcats.

Kansas State may not be quite ready yet to win this game outright, but under the tutelage or Bill Snyder, they will keep it close. Snyder is a legendary coach who made Kansas State into a juggernaut before retiring a few years ago, and is now back on the job again. The guy can coach, and he’ll have his guys ready to go Thursday night. The Wildcats have already beaten three solid teams- UCLA, Iowa State and Central Florida- this year.

On the opposite sideline, we’ll see if Martinez can move the sticks in his first conference game. As good as the freshman has been, this will be the best defense he’s seen all year, as Kansas State is giving up just 19 points a game. Also, although Nebraska is undefeated, they’ve hardly been a favorite of bettors, going just 1-2-1 ATS.

With Snyder at the helm, and Thomas running between the tackles, the Wildcats will do enough to keep things close in this one. While they may not win straight up, they still should be one of your Thursday night sports betting picks.
